| | Ski Season 2020/2021 - predictions
With Switzerland being a key destination for skiing across Europe, how's it going to get on this season?
Maybe the smaller, family resorts who get most of their custom from the Swiss, will scratch by. However the mega-resorts like Zermatt, Verbier and the Jungfrau region, survive on foreigners.
For 2019, the Swiss made up only @40% of hotel stays in Zermatt.
I'd imagine the school ski trips, even from within CH, will be thin on the ground also.
I guess it's more a case of how to minimise losses, rather make any profit.

It's going to be a tough season, for sure. Many are planning to come to CH because there is no quarantine coming in. But no-one can truly predict.
I do predict a lot of fantastic offers (selfishly) for those of us resident in Switzerland however.

the mountains were packed with local tourists in the summer. I think they will be well occupied in winter, but not packed. Concerns about social distancing on the lifts vs lack of other vacation choices.

We'll buy our season cards this weekend as usual. Hope everyone will do that so that the ski areas and local economies can survive.

Would love to return to Zermatt soon but I can't imagine what it will be like this winter - probably will wait until next year
Cross country skiing, however - pistes are all over the place with plenty of safe distancing to be had | The following 2 users would like to thank FCBarca for this useful post: | |

Yes, and so close to you and me- 1000s of kms- especially during the week.
But also small resorts like Métabief Mt d'Or, Les Rousses, Les Rasses/ST CRoix, La Robella, for downhill.
Booked ski in, ski out in Thyon 2000 for my BD- and will probably go to Zermatt for OH BD - never ever skied Zermatt before.

But there's quarantine after returning from CH to other countries.

Yes, of course- but at least not double quarantine as would be the case for other countries.
Again, the only prediction I have got is lots of great offers for us who are in situ.

Good news - maybe we'll finally be able to book a nice hotel during Sportferien for a normal price.

Personally I think if they are open it will be nice and quiet, like going on Christmas day every Saturday |

My expectation is that there will be a lot of Swiss plus a few German, French and Italian tourists, depending on the quarantine for them going home.
Somehow I see an extended period for me in Austria once the schools are forced to go to a remote teaching model. I am upgrading my internet connection for this eventuality and will ski. A lot.

hey, any experience with this queue system for ski lifts the local writes about? https://www.thelocal.ch/20201116/ame...wiss-ski-lifts
Does it really works? If it works, why don't they use it to board planes? |
