Things to do on Sunday?

Other than skiing - what can we do on Sundays during this lockdown?

Tried finding snowshoe hire, but they don't do hires on Sundays... so I've ordered some snowshoes, but they won't get here for a few days.

Any other ideas? Ideally looking for something outdoors to do tomorrow...

Who's "they"? I'm sure there are loads of places you could rent them - any rental shop in a ski resort, for a start.

I asked the three rental stores in Stoos, and they said that due to covid restrictions, they (all) are not allowed to do any rentals on sundays...

Why not rent some from a store local to you today, and then return on Monday?

Tried that too - but it seems like all sports stores that sell/rent snowshoes are closed... wait for it... due to COVID.

Hence my original request, what else is there to do?

Have you tried Ochsner Sport? Most branches are open for click and collect and they even offer winter sport fitting during your slot?

Good luck

Re: Things to do on Sunday?

I tried to buy snow-shoes and apparently they were out of stock, at Ochner's here. 2 wks back.

How about going here for a night:

Re: Things to do on Sunday?

many spa resorts are open, just for overnight guests, same for restaurant.

A bit too far for you, but we have 2 pairs of snowshoes and would be happy to lend to people in the NE Jura region. Still tons of snow above us.

Funny you mention that - I have a voucher for two for a day for that Spa... which cannot be used as they are closed.

Cycle ride?
Hike?
Walk?
Run?

Not sure why some people think these are only summer activities (not including the OP in this unless he does think like that!)

It looks fabulous. I actually never heard of that roof top pool. Too bad that it's closed. Bliss.

Re: Things to do on Sunday?

All we're doing at the moment is walking every evening during the week after OH finishes work and at weekends. Doesn't matter where as long as it's fresh air. Even a tramp through the city window shopping is fine.

We're near The Birs in Basel and it's been entertaining this past week watching people trying to surf on it, as it's been high and fast flowing with a few waves.

With the current snow conditions snowshoes would probably be rubbish anyway - earlier on you break through the crust and it's hard work, later they get covered in slush.

Just wear decent snow or walking boots and any ski area has tracks that you can enjoy, often leading to a restaurant where you can get a beer and bratwurst for lunch.

Although unfortunately the forecast for tomorrow is crap, maybe it will stay dry long enough for an outdoor lunch but make sure you're high enough to get snow rather than rain in the afternoon.

If snow conditions are questionable for snowshoeing, I tend to go to the official snowshow trails (check the Schweizmobil app). Usually there you find excellent tracks.

We were walking yesterday in Jura is this great place, it really made me forget MS Teams meetings https://seilbahnweissenstein.roundshot.com/ At least yesterday there was no need for snowshoes because all the rain of the last few days. But the wind made waterproof jacket, pants and boots were mandatory.

3 weeks ago we just climb the nearby hill (60m climb) and ate fondue at -4C. No need for restaurants =)
