Geneva area - ski/boots sale + one off sales // recommendations, please!

Hi guys,

I was hoping that Lanches would have their spring sale - that got cancelled. Called SportXX (Migros) I was told unlikely they'll have it this year. I suffered all throughout this season with a bad pair of ski boots waiting for the spring sales to start...

Anyone have any good tips as to where to go to get a good ski boot selection (on Sale!!) with people that know what they are doing? Family is in the UK at the moment so trying to get all my stuff done while they are gone.

I am happy to drive 45/60 minutes from Geneva (I am in Conches). Also if you know of cool sales coming up for some ski touring skis I am a big taker. Same thing I was waiting for the end of the season, with all the French people who would have bought some skins thinking they'd like it, and who likely abandoned the idea....

Just don't know where to go, as a kid I lived a year in Grenoble and they had huge ski fairs - some better than others...

Maybe Raoul Sport in Nyon. They have ski stuff and usually have end of season sales.

Getting ski boots that fit properly and getting ski boots on sale should really be regarded as mutually exclusive. Going to Ottos sports, for example, and selecting the best fit from the limited models available, will almost certainly not give you anything like as comfortable and well-fitted boot as going to a proper ski shop with a professional fitter. Even if you don't need any fitting adjustments or mouldings, an expert will be aware of all the different shapes and sizes of different boot makers and be able to find the best fit for your foot shape.

As a ski instructor, and someone with relatively normal feet, I might believe that I would easily be able to find a boot that properly fits, but when I needed new ones a couple of years ago I went to my local shop and went through theproper process, confident that they'd do a better job than me.

TBF the local shop is also the Ski School I work with, so of course I wasn't paying full price, but I still paid probably twice as much as I could have got some reasonable-spec boots for in a discount shop... and they're worth every penny.

SB Sport Centre in Gland has an American guy who fits boots Very, very, very nicely. Prices are the normal market prices, but unlikely sale prices.

IMHO well worth the investment.

I tend to disagree - Lanches for example has a really good boot fitter with all the bells and whistles. They usually have a sale at the end of the season and that doesn't mean they won't work with you to find the right boot. This was cancelled this year and it seems a few other shops as well have cancelled their sale. This is likely due to a huge amount of unsold inventory with Covid, they probably are trying to not flood the market with discounts? Don't know the reason tbh.

So an end of season sale is not mutually exclusive with getting a good person to fit the boot for you. Where I agree with you is the limited amount of boots you'll get end of season, but the effort of looking through different shop is usually rewarded with a good ski boot - just need to know who is putting their stuff on sale!
