| | TCS & Bicycle
I've recently learned that TCS offers Bicycle breakdown coverage.
I'm an avid cyclist and expect to do some great rides this year that I don't want disrupted by bicycle issues.
Has anyone ever used TCS for their bicycle?
Is it worth it?
I'm assuming it only covers you in Switzerland - is that correct?
What is your experience with using it.
YES - I know I can take a maintenance course to learn how to fix my bike, but sometimes things happen that need assistance. For example, last year I had a spoke break, Sadly I didn't have any spare spokes or spoke wrench to resolve my situation.

It's a smart business model but if you count the number of years you are bicycling times the annual premium, and deduct the actual cost you've had over the year in such cases, you probably don't end up with a negative number
Also, how would it work when your bicycle breaks down at some location that is not accessible by car?

I know it is included in the yearly membership which is 81 CHF.
And what can they fix realistically? Flat tires and smaller things on the drivetrain I can do myself. They could help with a broken chain maybe, but how often does that happen? I doubt they can fix broken spokes on the road.
I rather have that money for a taxi / SBB ride home instead of waiting for them to tell me they cannot fix it on the road.

| | | | | That is true for most insurances.

In my view, this only makes sense if:
(i) you are planning on making lengthy, i.e. holiday trip with a bicycle, and a breakdown essentially screws up the rest of your trip; or
(ii) you do not have a car with which you can pick up your own bicycle and bring it to a cycle repair shop (in my case I have quite a heavy eBike but I only use it for commuting so if need be I can manhandle to where it needs to be).
Of course if I do have a breakdown... so ultimately (as in all things insurance, risk versus cost).

Thanks everyone.
I think I'll skip on this offering.
I was thinking it would be useful in the event I had a break down on my bike somewhere distant from my "starting" location.
I only do Road biking so I didn't consider trails in my thought process.
Your comments have been very helpful and appreciated.
