| | Finding my bicycle after an accident
A week ago I had a bike accident and the hospital released me today. I need to find where my bicycle went but I have no memory of the accident. I was biking from Luzern to Kussnacht and my GPS suggests the accident happened between Meggen and Kussnacht. The hospital report has no information on the accident.
Is the normal approach to contact the police departments along the route and see if they have it in storage? Are there other organizations or government departments that I should reach out to as well? I don’t think another party was involved and the accident was entirely my fault.
Thanks!

Thanks! | | | | | Ahem.
Police sounds about right. How did you get into hospital? If you have no memories, someone must have called the ambo and surely there would be a police report for a road accident?

Thanks! | | | | | How did you get to hospital? A road accident involving hospitalisation would normally already involve the police.
The police would be the best place to contact in any case, since you'll need to report it missing if you want to make an insurance claim.

As newtoswitz mentioned, the police must have been involved if someone got injured in a traffic accident and an ambulance was called. So, ask them.
Also, when there's an accident where people is injured the police makes a public announcement looking for witnesses that can help in the accident investigation. This is the website for canton Luzern https://polizei.lu.ch/dienstleistung...enmitteilungen and this one for Schwyz https://www.sz.ch/behoerden/sicherhe...-408-2612-2611
So, is this you? https://newsletter.lu.ch/inxmail/htm...00000000ruvt74

First - Get well soon, must have pretty bad.
Now to add insult to injury, best find that bike soon as there's probably a daily charge from whomever is looking after it.. On top of the ambulance charge, the police bill Oh and of course the fine for not being in control of the bike..

Hi MontereyJack
Get well, and be careful on your bike. When we have been on an MTB group tour and someone has had an accident, their bike has been taken with them IN the ambulance. So maybe check with the hospital as well, if they have your bike in storage.
Good Luck.

In many places the ambulance notify the police automatically, who then "investigate" and offen issue the appropriate summons./fine.

Thanks everyone for the responses!
A cyclist that witnessed the accident was able to get in touch with me. I've reached out to see if he knows which Polizei arrived. The accident happened after I'd crossed the border from Kanton Luzern to Kanton Schwyz; I think the ambulance came from Luzern but the police came from Schwyz, possibly Küssnacht. I'll try to contact them.
Two cyclists and three drivers stopped to help until the medics and police arrived. I was unconscious most of the time and had a concussion when I was awake, so I was no help to any of these nice people. I owe lots of gifts and/or drinks if I can track these folks down.

OP, sounds like it was a doozy of a crash. I wonder if you'll return to cycling and whether this will inspire you to wear a helmet cam from this point?
Good luck with your bike recovery and your healing!
