| | Canoe Basel to Strasbourg
Hi,
Ive canoed in various stages from Stein Am Rhein to Basel.
Now I would like to go North from Basel toward Strasbourg over a weekend starting Friday afternoon.
The plan is to enjoy it and take it easy and if we dont get that far its also far.
Does anyone have any experience canoeing down this stage of the river and any tips ?
Viele Grüsse

Hi Viele,
in this blog they have quite good detail on that side of the Rhein. https://abundweg.ch/2019/10/13/tipps...hrhein-teil-2/
Actually my partner and myself are thinking also in doing similar route, so if you find or thinking on sharing the trip let me know.
Best
Alejandro

But it sounds like a cool idea.
Maybe when you've done it it would be cool if you could share the experience here?

For years, I've been wanting to kayak down the Rhine all the way to Amsterdam. But I know zero about it so it just rumbles around in the back of my mind.

The Rhine is a beautiful river to sail down. I've done most of it, though not under my own steam I must admit! Both sides are dotted with small villages, towns and so on. Each one has it's own landing stage and place to moor. I doubt you'd have to paddle more than 10 or 15 kms between them. You can also find very reasonable lodgings and excellent food and drink.
Enjoy the journey, as I'm sure you will.

Hi, so just an update! I did it this summer from Basel to Breisach. Wonderfull and now planning the next stage. Basel to Breisach is the Old Rhine and has no boats. We camped in the forest overnight about 10-15km from the end. You do have to paddle the last 10km or so. The water was relatively still.
Planning the next stage now, Breisach onwards

thats impressive, I did this summer a one day journey from Basel to Istein and am also aiming to explore more down the old Rhine.
did you face lot of blocades (water dam or others) along the old Rhine?

Sorry only check this out every few months. No blockages at all. Last 10km to Breisach we had to even use the paddles as the water was quite still because of the Dam in Breisach. Other than that..beautiful.
Next stage in July is from Breisach to Strasbourgh
