Re: Buying Nutritional Supplements here in Switzerland

Just for those who want to be sure about the legality in Switzerland of what they are buying online, here is the list from Swissmedic:
http://www.admin.ch/ch/d/sr/817_022_104/app15.html

I would imagine this is not completely exhaustive, but if you stick to these, you'll be safe.

Re: Buying Nutritional Supplements here in Switzerland

It used to take longer before (the packages seemed to transit via New Zealand for some reason), but now it sometimes takes less than a week even, but normally around 10 days, never much more. Depending on what you're buying, for me the only problem is the rather low 4lbs limit. But as the shipping is quite cheap, you can do multiple orders if needed.

The biggest competitor Vitacost has a lower limit and more expensive shipping and I honestly don't have a very good experience with them. But you can also try them. They are cheaper when you buy stuff that weights more (but without tracking), so for some things I have used them for this reason.

Yeah, I thought about the legallity of Ephedrine.
But I suppose I can find some other similar products that are OK, right?
Not as 'nutritional supplements', no. You can get cold remedies containing pseudoephedrine or similar, but I'd suggest you take note of the fact that there's a good reason for them to not be generally available as supplements.

I presume it'd be used as an appetite-suppressant? Might as well go the whole hog then and just start using speed if you're going to go down that route.

Oh, and if you _could_ find someone to mail them from the US it would be illegal in a very significant way, i.e. drug smuggling.

I used them when I was in California for 6 weeks and they're ace I might drop them an email to see what the deal is with sending supplements here.

Re: Buying Nutritional Supplements here in Switzerland

What is the score with Swiss customs then as I thought all packages incur Swiss VAT?

Re: Buying Nutritional Supplements here in Switzerland

The rule is that the 8% Swiss VAT shouldn't amount to more than 5CHF. That means that you can receive merchandise worth up to 62CHF without paying for customs. I have the feeling they are somewhat flexible, as the exchange rates fluctuate. In 5 years I've never paid customs for iHerb packages, even if I've been over 70USD a few times.

I believe that supplements are taxed at 2.5%. I've never been taxed for any iherb package under chf 200.

Really? Thanks for correcting me on that, it does make sense as that is how food and drugs are taxed.

Re: Buying Nutritional Supplements here in Switzerland

Maybe this will help -- if you ever travel to the states or the UK, I buy all my supplements there and bring them back. I can't find my amino acids here or the minerals I take. And if I do come across it, they are very expensive. For example I take L-Glutamine, the only effective amino in tablet form for cross the blood-brain barrier. Can't find it anywhere here, so stock up at the stores at home.

Re: Buying Nutritional Supplements here in Switzerland

The company may be able to tell you the rates Switzerland may charge before you order. If not, there are probably a few threads related to customs rates and charges on the forum. I'm sorry I don't know more about the specific charges you may incur.

Why would they not? Are bodybuilding supplements somehow exempt from the normal customs charges?

2.5 % of vitamins, etc
Not sure if anything will be taxed at 8% - other than shipping costs, maybe the energy booster. I really don't know

Then you'll probably pay at least 20chf service costs, maybe more. This is what they charge you to fill out the paperwork and compute the tax.

Rough estimate 30 -40 chf, if they decide to charge you. Could be more, I doubt more than 50 though. Check with delivery carrier.

Re: Buying Nutritional Supplements here in Switzerland

thanks for the info ; ) I think the best decision will be to buy supplements from here...30-40-50 CHF ?! and waiting 15 business days .... what for ? I was going to order from bodybuilding.com because the supplements were twice as cheaper as those in Switzerland but now I don't find them that expensive ..xaxa ; ) Though ,if somebody has already ordered from bodybuilding.com and know exactly how much are those customs fees and charges please let me know ; )

It's hard to predict, because it depends on your total and the cost of shipping and if the items are coming via regular post, or DHL, ups, ems.

I can tell you that I order from iherb.com, have only paid customs once because my orders are usually less than chf 200. My last order was about chf 150, I paid about chf 15 to ship via DHL and it arrived in three days.
