I'm toying with the idea of going down to the bottom of the lake and trying the Sattelegg Pass. I think it should be alright as the elevation doesn't get too high and isn't a real mountain pass, but I'm not sure. I can always turn back if I run into snow on the roads or otherwise unacceptable conditions.

Sattelegg is open. It is kept open all winter, I drove over it when we had bugger loads of snow and it would have been rideable if you were careful.

I'm planning on maybe doing Pfaffikon SZ to Sattelegg to Ibergeregg and back to Pfaffikon at some stage over Easter. Unfortunately I can't ride this weekend.

Re: [Zürich] Road Rides on weekends Season 09

I am guessing Ibergeregg is still quite cold and snowy, although rideable. I was in Schwyz, Sattel, and Aegeri earlier this week and there was clearly significant snow at elevations 4-500 meters below the summitt of Ibergerregg

I am hoping to do the same around Easter and will likey trying to do rides in the similar area, I will post on EF if this is the case.

Wow, Sattelegg, good one, I think i would collapse if I had to do that one right now even though I love it.....the last 4k always hurt hurt hurt me (from the non-Einselden side). Though, in reality, it is not that steep, probably because it was the first real climb I ever did when I still over 200 pounds...flashbacks, I didn't stop though somehow even to get sick (just kidding)

Re: [Zürich] Road Rides on weekends Season 09

It is a steep climb but nice one as it goes around the bends which I like..( though it hurts all time, specially at the top)

Hopefully I regain some fitness soon and join others for the ride around the passes on Easter..

Can't work out from the posts whether the 100km ride is happening on Sunday or is just been passed around as an idea. I would be keen to join assuming I can actually get to the meeting spot on time !!!

Re: [Zürich] Road Rides on weekends Season 09

Guys, I am going to go solo this weekend. I need to make sure I go at my own pace as I think I've been overtraining lately.

Enjoy the nice weather and I'll be back and hopefully fully recovered for a group ride next week.

I don't think that any firm decision has been made so far.
Personally, I'll go both on Saturday and Sunday. My plan was to do a relaxed longish ride on Saturday (like 5hrs or more for a 100k with a few hills) and to push a bit harder on Sunday (same kind of distance though).
And of course, the more EFers, the merrier

I was planning an easy spin tomorrow but will probably keep it to 50km's ahead of the longer ride on Sunday as I was cold turkey for 3 months before last Monday - could just join you and split part way through. Will pm you to try and sort out a plan and we can then post details of whatever we come up with on here so that others can join if they choose. Looks like being a great weekend to say hello to spring !!

Shame you didn't come Salsa_Lover: it stopped raining just after you posted and it turned out to be a lovely day to be on a bike

I created an event on the calendar for another ride tomorrow (Sunday 5th).

Re: [Zürich] Road Rides on weekends Season 09

I ended up going up the Sattelegg today, and it was an awesome day out. Great weather and great conditions on the pass, and also I was very pleased as my energy level was much better than I expected. I left from Oerlikon around noon, was very careful to exert very little energy going down the lake, and arrived in Siebnen probably around 2pm. I took it nice and easy during the first half of the climb where the gradient was around 6%. After downing a "gew" energy thing, I proceded up the rest of the climb which I think must have averaged in the 8-10%. It was pretty steep at parts but with a triple it was certainly manageable (especially compared to the 16% we were doing on the Thursday night ride!), but the last switchback led into a very long straight climb through a forest that took much longer than expected to end. I noticed that the temperature seemed to drop a lot as I went up, and also snow began to appear, and then the snow depth began to grow and grow until it was at least a meter of snow off the road. But the climbing kept me plenty warm. The restaurant at the top was unfortunately closed (until 15 April), so I just spent a couple minutes at the top and then descended. The descent was short but very chilly. I turned right towards Egg, got lost in the middle of nowhere, and eventually found my way back up over Oberegg (no thanks to some Swiss lady who although was very kind, when I asked "wo isch Obereggstrasse" pointed with both arms in opposite directions and said some things in swiss german) and descended back towards Pfaffikon. This descent was really nice as the temperature seemed to change from Winter weather to Summer weather over the course of a couple minutes. Somehow to my surprise I had enough energy to make it back to Zurich for a total of 120 km, which I really didn't think I had much chance of completing when I set out.

Anyway I will now take a couple days to recover and ponder what to attempt next.

Great job, patrick and great report.....the bit through the forest is always hard.

Re: [Zürich] Road Rides on weekends Season 09

Fellow cyclists.

The weekend is looking dry and warmer, I didn't do much this week and want to do long/challenging rides on Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday would be afternoon only because I'll go to the VeloBörse in the morning.

What do you have in mind ?

Re: [Zürich] Road Rides on weekends Season 09

I'm thinking about a ride from Uster, out around Wagitalersee and back tomorrow. It will be about 100km, but for the distance it won't have a huge amount of climbing. Planning on doing it at a comfortable pace as a long slow distance type ride, rather then a lung/leg busting DNR ride.

I'm open to other options though. Can road ride tomorrow (Saturday), but not Sunday.

Re: [Zürich] Road Rides on weekends Season 09

I'm in,
I lost 2 Kg but won them back again so I need the long distance ride

but only a bit later. from 11 or 12 to 3pm would be ok ?

I'm going to the Velobörse early and probably will take 2 bikes for sale there.

I think I have to be back before they close so I can pick the bikes back if they are not sold
