Bicycle specific german vocabulary

Was going to post this in the language forum but thought that it would reach more bikers in the sport/fitness area.

I found a very useful spreadsheet on the Park Tools site. Over the years, I picked up most of the bike specific German vocab that I needed but there are still quite a few specialised terms missing. The spreadsheet will be really useful for me to expand my German vocab and also to have on a PDA or smartphone if touring in one of the countries who's language is also covered (Spanish, French, Italian, Swedish, Portuguese, Dutch, Serbian)

Anyway, here's the link to download the spreadsheet

Enjoy!

Salsa,

Send feedback - you'll find the email address in the excel sheet

I'm surprised if there are mistakes - if you look at the list of credits, you can see that there are some eminent contributors.

Re: Bicycle specific german vocabulary

That's great, thanks a lot. I had been using this list for German-English, but hadn't found an equivalent for French, so this is way better, plus it is far more exhaustive. Due to browsing a lot of Swiss and German online bike parts stores, close to half of the German vocabulary that I know is bike-related. There can't be many people in the world who know what a "Steuersatz" is but cannot say "My name is Chris" in German.

Hi guys,

Sorry this is a bit late but I've just come across this thread and the list Jekyll mentioned in the initial post is exactly what I need. Any chance anyone has it and can either email it to me?

Thanks

Hi ametisto,

I don't have it but I googled "bicycle mechanic language" (the filename at the end of Jekyll's link) as it seemed the sort of useful thing that you might possibly find uploaded to multiple websites.

Sure enough:

http://www.parktool.com/blog/repair-...es-spreadsheet
http://www.usacycling.org/forms/mech...icLanguage.xls
http://www.bikecollectives.org/wiki/...Language_5.xls
etc.

Hope this helps.
