Re: running in zurich

Hello there!

The Love Doctor likes to go running around the Zueri Berg! By the dolder hotel, lots of greenery around, no cars and plenty of other activities you can do! Ten minutes from the HB on on tram 6 (Kirch Fluntern) but you need to navigate your way around there, may be take a look at google maps.

You could also run by the lake from Bellvue to the chineese gardens and back.

or around the Uetliberg area... just depends where you live.

In all cases you will more than likely find somewhere nice and clear for a good half an hour jog.

:-D

Cheers

A few of us go running every Wednesday evening, usually at 6:30 or 7:00. We have different routes and start at different places. The details are always posted on the calendar (for some reason, today's meeting point is still "TBC" though).

Re: running in zurich

Along the Limmat River - Take tram 13 and stop at Escherweyzplatz
Or up in the forest near ETH Honggerberg.

Oh yes, it is, perhaps much more than US/UK.

If you prefer running on roads, practically all roads in residential areas or even other areas are sufficiently traffic and smoke free to get decent runs.

If you like trails just land up near Uetliberg and you can run all over it or around it there are countless trails and combinations to suit evey need. And yes, Zurichberg is another hotspot for running routes, really depends where you live/work/have friends.

Happy running

Re: running in zurich

I too, am new to Zurich and have been searching for good running spots and a running buddy/group. I am a 37-yr. old woman (married, one daughter) who runs a 8-minute mile (roughly 4:50 minute/km) for a 5K. I live near Romerhofplatz, which of course is the bottom of the Dolder, but so far I've just run through neighborhoods and to the lake. I guess I'm chicken to run at the Dolder without another person-- anyone interested? If so, you can respond to me directly, and we can coordinate.

Re: running in zurich

Hi, as indicated, the running group meets more or less regulary on wednesdays (see calendar). Re itineraries , see here http://www.stadt-zuerich.ch/content/..._Laufguide.pdf

but really ( i have been here one year on Zurichberg), make your own using the extensive trail network. I do a lot of one ways, what with public transport at the end of many.

From Dolder, run to Forsch/Greifensee , Pfannenstiel, Witikon/Kusnacht, Stettbach etc etc

TOmorrow Sunday I am going for a long run 15 miles so if anybody is interested. Not sure of time and direction from Zurichberg, PM if interested. I am training for a 3.45 marathon.

Would prefer a not too early start, happy to run in the rain. You can either reply to the email I already sent you, or post the details here as others might be interested.
Thnx

Re: running in zurich

Hey everybody,

I was disapointed there is no great running website for people (mostly ex-pats) in Zurich. So I'm actually in the process of creating one "WOW!" I hear you say.

Sooooo... do checkout my Facebook page:
http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/...00001699133435
and
my Twitter page:
http://twitter.com/#!/therunnerch

I literally just opened them today - so they are pretty bare right now.

The website should be ready in about a week and i'm pretty excited about it
My aims are:
1 - an open running website with blog/forum for running tips and advice.
2 - a calander of training runs, (not only mine!) that anyone can join.
3 - running information superhighway

And I want to create a section especially for ladies who prefer to run only with other ladies because I know from when I used to live in London that it's really important.

Wait out the cool stuff will come soon.
best wishes
'therunner'

Re: running in zurich

Regarding Pfannenstiel: Take the train (S18 from Stadelhofen) to Zumikon, run up Chapf strasse towards Forch Denkmal, follow signs to Pfannenstiel through Forch and the forest behind: REALLY beatiful running and 700 altitude meters over approx 16K. Just went today and it's not less beatiful with the snow :-)

Re: running in zurich

Zurich has its annual prexmas run (Zurich slivetstrelauf) on Dec. 12, with thousands taking part. A fun event.

Zurich also has Hash house harriers regularly. (google the website) SOme of the ZUrich HHH runners also regulary run with Basel, Shaffhaussen and other HHH group.

I have heard that a new running club, that will organise groups of different levels, is going to be starting sometime soon.

Running in Zurich

I'm a masters student at ETH and spent all Fall running by myself... as it's getting quite lonely, I'm wondering if there's still a running group in the area or anybody looking for a running buddy.

Running buddy? Does it mean a buddy who run away when you need him?

Yeah -- I tried looking there, but things seemed to date back a while, so that's why I asked if anything was still going on. But thanks for the suggestion. I'm still trying to find my way around this forum.

Hi,

I normally run in the Altstetterwald. Have a look at http://www.mapmyrun.com as this has some good suggestions.

Cheers,
Nick

Hi,
I used to post the Wednesday evening group runs; been out of country since then. I am back now but unwell; I do hope to start these runs in February. In fact, given that most of us regulars work close to ETH, I might make that the normal starting point. See some old events on the social calendar

See if skirich has started something too.

Re: running in zurich

There is a group who meet Sunday's at 9.30 at birkliplatz but it's quite a Swiss german thing- a lot of hans- peters and hans-ruedis. But they are very friendly and sociable, also means you can practice Swiss german.
I'm looking for a group more out near the airport, but I haven't found anything yet.
