| | [Zürich] Flat and long area with low or no traffic ?
I need to practice bike handling on aerobars and I am looking for a place near Zürich that has long and flat areas with low or no traffic.
So for example long straight roads on a village with little traffic, or a big parking lot that is empty on evenings etc.
If you know about some place in Zürich to do so please post it here
Thanks

How about an empty industrial area like around Raefelstrasse (Wiedikon) ? How long is a long street ? There are a few dead end private streets in this area...

If you are willing to travel outside of Zurich the new highway is being used as an unofficial cycle track on weekends. Lots of flat, straight open space for you to practice on.

I was able to come to the tunnels here under the Uetliberg ( for work reasons ) when they were still in construction, but one could not bike inside

this area is quiet at night http://map.search.ch/d/dk0othknz.en....376495eae59a3a
good luck with the aero bars, remember their use is often banned at high speed, eg going downhills.

This area is very flat and long. We skate (inline) there a lot. But over the weekend it is pretty crowded there. I suggest midweek day. When I do rollerjoring with my dog, for example on Monday or Tuesday at 8am we are almost alone there.

It is the best place we have found till now.

You need to go the other side of the Islesberg (sp?) tunnel to Affoltern am Albis. You can get on the road quite easily from the train station. If you decide to try it out let me know & I will give you more precise directions. | Quote: | | | | | Where ?

Not sure how close to Zurich you want to be, but I live in Staefa and ride using aero bars from Staefa to Rapperswil along Seestrasse some evenings. There is traffic, but usually relatively low and there are cycle lanes both sides.
I am not that used to using the bars but have felt safer on them here than in the UK....at least people give you space when you are on a bike here!
Staefa to Rappi and back is 12k, but could be extended easily and is all pretty flat with a lovely view of the lake to boot! | This user would like to thank EnglishRose for this useful post: | |

I live in Züri Enge and I also can use the bike lanes at the Seestrasse like all other cyclists do.... when I feel skilled enough.
I need an area where I can practice first until I have the at least basic bike handling skills on aerobars before going into a normal traffic area.
my new TT bike has the aerobars quite low and so I need to practice slowly first |

great bike path along the Rhine, you need to take a train, car and or ride out to Sargans. Only negative is lots of fast cyclists there. It is flat along the Rhine, beautiful, sometimes windy....not sure how long it runs... http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=...image&resnum=1
It does turn into dirt at some point, but there is defintely at least a 5 or 6 km clip of asphalt. it may be longer, I do not remember....it is a great area to ride nonetheless, you find all kinds of variety. mountains, flats, hills, Liechtenstein.
