Fishing in Zugersee and around

Hello.

We tried to go fishing this weekend in Zugersee for the fist time, just to have a look how it goes here, bought some default bait (maggets and worms from a shop in Cham on the corner of Bahnhofstrasse and Hunenbergerstrasse) but it seems that these baits were not the best to feed swimming creatures in Zugersee. We er able to get plenty of small roaches, perchs (while I was looking for a proper translation of fish types from my native language, I found this page: http://www.talkangling.co.uk/upload/...yet_again.html -- exactly same size & type).

But these were not we were trying to.

So... can you suggest on what's the preferreable type of bait for carp, trout, etc. (for sure might need a spinner)?

May be Zugersee is not the best spot and it's better to go to near-by lakes (Agerisee, Laurzer, Rotsee, Luzernsee...)

Thanks.

I'm not a carp fisherman, but if you're after trout and want to use spinners, the Wägitalersee is a decent enough and picturesque place to go. 30 Sfr for a day card, and no test needed. If you do a search, there's been quite a few thread on the subject.

As far as fish names, I wrote a little swiss german/english fish translation on my very much still in development fishing blog here.

Do you need a permit to fish on Zugersee? I've been quite confused at all the regulations, thanks

What I've got from a woman in the shop I mentioned above, if you're fishing with one rod with a float (not spinner, etc), you don't need a license.

Well... I can not say that I'm for carp. I'd rather want to go fishing for something larger then what I did and this can be a trout a carp, whenever in Zugersee. Neither I'm a specialist, so...

And great thanks for the translation list!

Not just that, but natural bait only aside from live baitfish, and you probably have to use a barbless hook. I'd have to check the specific regulations to the Zugersee though. I'll be posting a list of lakes where you can fish from the shore for free and specific rules for each, I just have to get around to it.

Yeap, that's true, I also read that bout.
Actually, as a beginner (well... last time I was fishing before was approx. 18 years ago) I asked for a "beginners set" and that one from Okuma Fishing ( http://www.okumafishing.com/ ): rod, several hooks, loads, float -- I was told I can go without license.

What I actually want to do is to find out the best way to do fishing in surrounding lakes and then proceed through a specific license suitable for that kind of fishing.

Re: Fishing in Zugersee and around

I ride and walk around Zugersee quite a bit, and I see kids and adults fishing all around the lake. They use barbed hooks alright. I suggest the east side of the lake in the morning, the water is deep there between Oberwil and Walchwil. If you park yourself by the trees closer to the Walchwil side, you can't miss 12-16" trout. Next best place is by the Rigi side of the lake, though the fish there are smaller as there is little shade.

Good luck.

How do you know they're using barbed hooks? You'd have to inspect them pretty closely in order to tell.

That being said, most places don't allow them when you're fishing without a license. Lots of people probably break the rules out of sheer laziness or simple ignorance, but it's a good habit to get into anyhow. I crimp the barbs on all my hooks, I've never noticed that I've lost more fish, it makes fish easier to release unharmed, and that little tiny piece of metal isn't worth a fine.
