vibram five fingers

Does anyone know a Swiss stockist of Vibram Five Fingers? (apparently the German brand name is Lizard).

I would like to give them a try - has anyone tried them out for running or everyday use?

Re: vibram five fingers

Hi, the pros and cons of going barefoot vs. near barefoot (FiveFingers) vs. specialist running shoes, and some outlets for the fivefingers have been discussed here

I did not find them practical for everyday running, but a nice supplement to have for occassional use.

If you are thinking of winter use, you might need the FiveFingers Flow model; advntur (whose posts you will find in that thread) should give us a feedback on this model soon.

Re: vibram five fingers

These are the most amazing shoes... I have several pairs, and use them for running, but also for every day use. They look a little different, so I find that I can't always wear them. There are some other great brands however. Vivo Barefoot, Feelmax etc.

This website I really like.. It is called www.LivingBarefoot.info They have a podcast where they talk about minimalist shoes and barefooting, and they have really good reviews about all these shoes....

Re: vibram five fingers

The scientific evidence now shows that highfalutin running shoes provide no real advantage, either for injury protection or performance http://www.nature.com/nature/journal...ture08723.html

As a kid growing up in rural Australia I preferred to be barefoot anyway and only ever wore shoes for protection in case of sharp rocks/snakes etc. It seems that minimalist shoes like the vibram 5 fingers offer the best of both worlds: barefoot mechanics + skin protection so you don't step on a syringe or whatever

Does anyone know of shops stocking vibram 5 fingers or something similar in Basel?
I could order online but my feet tend to be anywhere from size 41 to 43 depending on the brand.

I would also be interested in trying some, but I have read that compared to normal shoes it is very important to try them before you buy - the fit is very important, and they may not suit all feet shapes...

Yes, this is exactly why I don't want to buy my first pair online
I have a long and skinny foot for example

Ah yes, same problem for me, except I'm more like a 46... Sorry I can't help with a Swiss dealer. If you find one please post it up here though as it would be good to know.

There is another seemingly unrelated thread discussing where you can get Vibram shoes here:

http://www.englishforum.ch/sports-fi...t-running.html

Scroll past the first few posts to see the informative ones about where you can find them.

Re: vibram five fingers

I saw them in the pharmacy in the Greenhouse building in Dietlikon- next to the Jumbo. They don't have a huge selection but I heard from a friend in the US that the fit must be perfect. My plan is to try them on there for size and fit then order them from the US and ask a friend who is traveling there to bring them back. They are considerably cheaper in the US. I can't wait to try them.

Re: vibram five fingers

WARNING - If buying online, be very wary about buying via Ebay. There is a big trade in counterfeit VFFs. Ebay appears to have bargains but they are nearly all dodgy, and low quality. Do a Google search for more info. You really do need to go to a recognised dealer and try them on to get the right fit.

Re: vibram five fingers

I took a punt on measuring my foot - and then going for their suggested size.

They are tight by design - but they are the right size. 2 smaller than my normal shoes!

Re: vibram five fingers

FYI if your second toe is longer than your big toe you can't wear them. I love them for running and daily use - you will get used to a few odd looks and maybe even people asking you about them.
I have KSO Treks, KSO regulars and the originals. If anyone has questions about those models I can offer help.

General advice if you want iniji socks with them buy a size bigger though I hear the liner socks are fine.

Re: vibram five fingers

I had no idea that Al Bundy hath provideth thee with thy shoeth of the Lord !!!

I don't think I'm worthy of wearing these shoes now.

......... I am however a big fan of this changing of running technique. I have been training for a little while and went for my first decent run - without knee pain.

(muscles in the quads and calves hurt like hell, but I can deal with that).

I know the joy of that "no more knee pain!" as well

I first got into the idea of barefoot running after seeing a talk by Dan Lieberman in Chicago on human evolution and the role of running.

There is debate about the role of running: this blog posting from a paleo diet enthusiast sums it up http://www.hunter-gatherer.com/blog/...ng-good-or-bad makes for interesting reading

The same blogger destroys a silly podiatrist as well http://www.hunter-gatherer.com/blog/...more-orthotics !

Re: vibram five fingers

I just bought a pair of vibrams yesterday from Kost Sport Basel. I was actually looking for snowboard rental and just stumbled upon them. 190 CHF for a pair of sprints... damn expensive but i consider it to be worth 50 CHF for the fact that I don't have to spend any more time looking around for them. Now that I know my size and fit I'll just order from the states for $80 next time. I also bought some nike free 3.0s for comparison.

results from first session on the treadmill with the vibrams did 7 km in 30 mins.
- as expected from the lieberman literature, noticeable difference in foot strike pattern. no more heel strike, landing on the fore foot now.
- calves work a lot harder
- less stress of the knee because the knee is more bent throughout the whole running movement
- came up with some blisters on the forefoot. obviously the feet need to adjust and toughen up a bit
- lighter feet feels better
