Extreme Winter Sports, Sion Area

I need help finding something a little more extreme than skiing for some adrenaline junkies the last week in January. They only have from 1330 on, so it has to be fairly close to Sion.

These guys are fearless or so they have told me.

Thank you and links/phone numbers would be über appreciated!

If they themselves have said they are fearless then take them to play tiddly winks. Their idea of fearless is probably something like fairground rides or bungy jumping where they don't have to have the skill to do it themselves.

The people who are truly fearless and have the skill to back it up don't tell you they are fearless!

They were trying to impress me. Seriously though, I do need something to offer other than heliskiing if possible.

If they're that fearless, why not take 'em for some Extreme Offpiste Ironing?

Ice-climbing is also a good way to find out how fearless "fearless" actually is.

Re: Extreme Winter Sports, Sion Area

You can take them to Verbier and send them down the black slope at Montfort. My dad says it is the worst black slope he has ever seen, going steep down on both sides, and only 2 meter wide.
It was not until we were on the way home, he told me which slope it was, so I would not get tempted to try it. But I am sure, other EF'ers wil be able to say if it is that bad or not.

Doc.

I remember in the U.K. when everyone was wearing those "No Fear!" T-shirts.

I tried to get a "Much Fear!" one.

Re: Extreme Winter Sports, Sion Area

"Sion’s Old Town is interesting, and embarking on a slow wander through the cobbled
alleys, with their old inns and sixteenth-century shuttered townhouses, can fill an
atmospheric afternoon. Just northeast of Place de la Planta is the small Église St-
Théodule, dating from the sixteenth century and with some fine vaulting in the choir."

Adrenaline-rush, or wot!?!?!?

Re: Extreme Winter Sports, Sion Area

how about sledging, I know it doesn't sound scary, so you'll have to give it another name but going down one of the various km length groomed sledging runs like the one at Verbier on a proper wooden sledge is very fast and very scary. Especially at night.

This is true and if they are male and over 30 the chances of them not breaking something is pretty remote.

Russian roulette :P;
Blade running(Ground launching, Speed Fly)
BASE jumping
Skydiving

For fearless blokes that want to rediscover fear and probably more.
The first one though, doesn't really need any deep, appropriate training and previous experience.

Verbier is a real centre for winter extreme sports - ask the tourism office for help there. This is where world cups events are held for Xtreme skiing, snowboarding and a few other crazy things. So there's a whole crowd there that knows where to go, what to do.

If you can find a guide, perhaps Fall Wall off the back of Mont Fort. Very steep at the top. Can't find many articles on it on the internet, perhaps Eire will know it, but it's not just straight off the back you climb along a bit first.

Did you get one?

A bit OT, but the first few posts here remind me of the "provincial queens"

Others: the OP is dated 1 year back, but keep them coming

Yes, fabulous - but NOT somewhere you take strangers whose ability you are not certain about! Please - unless you want to end up with a few paraplegics!

Go up Val D'Herens to Barrage de Dixence - the worlds highest concrete dam (285 meters high). Close to the top there are two climbing routes going up the dam, which on a windy winters day should shake up even the fearless!
