I haven't played cricket since school, always enjoyed watching though but the village I used to live in had quite a good team - used to play a charity match vs the cast of Emmerdale Farm every year - so I never risked pulling on the pads so to speak
Would be up for a friendly match though, 3 down, 19 to go...?

Tennis ball cricket or leather ball cricket? Plus where?

I would be delighted to have a game.
Now, how do we do this?
I am told there is an active club in Wintertur, but I guess you were thinking of something a little more informal. But, we could organize to go there 'en masse' (ok, a very small mass).
Still, you/we really do need: wicket, stumps, pads/gloves etc., and a hardish ball to make it fun.

I'd like to play, but I know I'd be bloody awful without lots of practise.
If there's an opportunity for an very informal knock (or even some indoor cricket) just to see where were at - then I'd probably try to come down.

I think you can get a rubberised ball - heavier than a tennis ball so you don't get a 6 off every ball, but not as solid as a leather one so you don't break bones
Indoor might also be OK with a tennis ball, as it will ping off the walls and not go for miles
If we do have a harder ball then gloves and pads are probably going to be needed, which means we'll probably have to try and get some time at a "proper" cricket club - I'd rather just do it as a knock about where it's more informal though?

I love the occasional game of cricket. Last time I played was in a little fun tournament where my brother secured us the use of the cricket club he belongs to.
We had 18 guys turn up to play and more by accident than design came across a neat little format whereby we split into three teams of six, and played a round robin format, with the non playing team either fielding for the bowling team or umpiring. Each game was five overs and everyone on the team bar the wicketkeeper bowled an over. Rather than play each game consecutively, we played one innings of all the games first, then the other innings. That way each team was doing something different (batting, bowling or fielding) in each set of five overs.
Perhaps that could be a suggested format if we get enough interest here? The whole occasion did have painful memories for me though. Due to the fact that I concentrated on working out what we were going to do, rather than warming up, it wasn't long before I found myself chasing the ball to the boundary and pulling first one hamstring and then another!
I was walking around like I'd just pooped my pants for the next couple of weeks |

The only time I've played was on a weekday evening, with teams of 11. Each team has an innings of 22 overs, with each player bowling 2 overs. From memory it may have taken 2-3 hours for the whole game. We played with a proper cricket ball and pads, which was ok but, if you're a bit of a beginner, ideally it would be nice to get your confidence going with a less scary ball at first.
It was pretty good fun - despite the fact that I'm sh*t.
Its a nice way to spend a summers evening for sure. |

Its almost 5 years since i last hold a cricket bat which i remember was in middle of nowhere, a small place called Rendsburg in North Germany.
It would love to join in if anybody is playing amateur version of this game.

Could it be a midweek event from 6pm, making full use of the light of the midsummer evenings?
