You can check out the following schools:

www.bailamos-salsa.ch (Puerto Rican style Salsa)
www.fabricadesalsa.ch (mostly Cuban style)
www.salsameneo.com (Cuban style)

There are others, but since I don't know anything about how well they teach, I can't stick my neck out and suggest them. I think both Bailamos and Fabrica would work well for English speakers. I've been going to Bailamos now for a year and a half , and I'm planning to join Fabrica for Cuban style lessons.

There are quite a lot of weekly scheduled Salsa events in Basel. You can try the following out. I'll hold my opinions about crowds and smoke in reserve. You may or may not like each place, the preference is very individual.

Tuesday - Kuppel (kuppel.ch) - Mostly Cuban style music
Wednesday - Fame (fame-club.ch) - Mix of Puerto Rican and Cuban
Thursday - Allegra (allegra-club.ch) - Mix of Puerto Rican and Cuban
Thursday - Practica at Tanzpalast - This is not a club event, it's a practica
Friday - Bar Rouge (barrouge.ch) - Mix of Puerto Rican and Cuban - (However the place is shut down for the next few weeks)
Saturday - Allegra
Sunday - Mitte (mitte.ch) - Only on alternate Sundays - Mix of Puerto Rican and Cuban

I think someone was asking if he/she needs a dance partner to start learning the Salsa : No, you can register alone at most schools and they will pair you up with someone else who registers alone. Or they will call in dancers from advanced levels to come and dance with you for the classes. The schools also usually have a partner search page where you can put up a posting...and pray for a response.

The flip side is that people who have regular partners who have time to practice at practicas/clubs will invariably progress much faster that people who don't. And there is a third flip side to the flip side :-) : If you don't have a regular partner, you eventually become a much more skilled dancer since you learn to adapt to many different partners.

Re: salsa in Basel

I have checked bailamos salsa and I have to say I like their offer because they differentiate by your abilities. Basic has three levels!
Husband and I are planning to join next month Also on their webpage they say if they need more men or women so that can give you an idea

Take care!

Angela

Re: salsa in Basel

Bumping this thread.

I'm planning to join a salsa course in Basel from next week. From the information that I've collected, Bailamos seems to be suitable for English speakers.

Does anyone have experience with the other Salsa schools, i.e. Salsameneo and Fabricadesalsa? Any recommendations?

www.fabricadesalsa.ch (mostly Cuban style)
www.salsameneo.com (Cuban style)

Thanks.
