Re: River Surf in Switzerland?

I was walking along the Limmat in Zurich (Fischerweg) and saw someone fooling around with a surfboard and a bungee cord (and a bridge) on the water. Now following Ripz link I see it's a regular sport. Kids these days.

Re: River Surf in Switzerland?

they also do that in interlaken beneath a bridge. there was a contest there a year or two ago. there are two types of corded river surfing, one with a ski rope (non-bungee) and the bungee type. the ski rope type usually attaches to a bridge and the surfer rides against a strong current. with the bungee type, the surfer stretches out the bungee and then uses the slingshot momentum to skim over the surface of the water.

but be careful not to get tangled in the rope..

In Thun city centre, near Zurich and also Geneva. Near Switzerland: Grenoble (F), Lyon (F), Munchen (D) and many other places.

Most of the spots are kept "secret".

Or any other WW river in Switzerland. I am surprised that I have not yet any board surfers on the waves at the WW site in HUningue ( just across the French border from Basel. )

Re: River Surf in Switzerland?

Has anyone surfed on the Rhone River upstream of Sierre? I kayaked there a long time ago and there were some insanely good surf waves when the water was very high. Would have been very good on a board.

Also... i will be there in 3 weeks (switzerland). Is there anywhere to rent a short surfboard?

Tony
