England Squad announced today

Who is Don Fabio going to leave behind?

Announcement is due at 15.00 GMT but the rumour mill has gone into overdrive

The News of the World's Neil Ashton reckons Ledley King is NOT going to South Africa.

BUT

BBC sports news correspondent Dan Roan says he has it on good authority that Ledley King is IN the England World Cup squad.

Also

From Oliver Holt at the Mirror on Walcott: "He received a phone call from Capello this morning while he was on the golf course and told the bad news of his surprise omission."

and still more

According to bettingpro.com, Leighton Baines, Tom Huddlestone, Scott Parker and Michael Dawson will join Theo Walcott, Darren Bent and Adam Johnson as the seven not going to South Africa.

Wow the drama!!!!!!!!!!!

That means Warnock despite not having a cap is on the plane. The truly awful Wright-Phillips is going whilst the appauling Theo Walcott thankfully isn't.
If Dawson goes instead of balsa wood knees King then I will call Cappello a genius.

EDIT: quite liking that the news is released via Twitter before the FA releases it. Makes it much more fun/ farcical.

To confirm, we haven't been told by the Football Association that the official announcement will be made at 1500 BST, we have just heard the rumour flying around that it will be then.

Re: England Squad announced today

I'm a Gooner and if Walcott doesn't go, I will be sad for the lad but I have to be honest and say that maybe it will give him the kick he damn well needs. Even I can cross a ball better than him. That's not to say I think Lennon is better, but hey ho.

The rumour that Baines is staying behind is not a surprise given how terrible he looked v Mexico.

Having worked in PR/comms myself, the biggest debate should be over how the information is leaking out...none too professional!!

He is generally a very intelligent player but he's had a poor season, full of starts and stops due to injuries. Shame and rather surprising that he's been left out - having started in both friendlies. Lennon is pants compared to him.

You must have been watching someone else.
I would have said he has had a very poor career. His skills include punting the ball too far forward and running very quickly after it in a straight line. He can't cross, pass, tackle or dribble and will panic when confronted with a barn door.
Lennon has at least learned to cross

No, I havent.

Update: according to the Times and Telegraphs' football correspondents on Twitter, Walcott has already given reaction and statement before the official list is out.

Re: England Squad announced today

Right, this just in from FA.com on Twitter:

Goalkeepers: Robert Green, Joe Hart, David James

Defenders: Jamie Carragher, Ashley Cole, Rio Ferdinand, Glen Johnson, Ledley King, John Terry, Matthew Upson, Stephen Warnock

Midfielders: Gareth Barry, Michael Carrick, Joe Cole, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Aaron Lennon, James Milner, Shaun Wright-Phillips

Forwards: Peter Crouch, Jermain Defoe, Emile Heskey, Wayne Rooney

Surprise, surprise.

Re: England Squad announced today

Disappointed to see Carrick in there, he hasn't played well for ManU or England but then I guess there aren't many other choices.

Stephen Warnock is a bit of a surprise, I've always rated him but right now I am praying that Ashley Cole doesn't get injured ( I feel sick just typing that)
Hopefully SWP never gets a second on the pitch and if we have to resort to Upson in defence we are in real trouble.

heee I think Warnock's inclusion probably says more about Capello’s lack of faith in Leighton Baines than it does about his footballing abilities.

Aye, Baines has had a shocking season hasn't he, well if you class having the most assists in the Premier League for any defender as "poor"...
Baines' comments about him not travelling well didn't do him any favours, but anyone who watched the Mexico game should also realise that his poor first half was completely down to being abandoned by the "left winger" ahead of him who decided to go wandering as he always does. Watch the game back and see how much better Baines did when Milner dropped in to left wing for the second half...and stuck to his task.

Is it just me or does this just not look like a world cup winning squad. I think the midfield looks strong, but foward-wise it is all down to Rooney.

If we don't get any injuries I can only imagine this side getting to the QF or the SF at the most. Spain or Argentina are my favourites to win but i don't really care as long a Germany or Switzerland don't take it!!!

Re: England Squad announced today

Walcott doesnt deserve to go, he had a rubbish season at Arsenal, musk like Heskey at Villa.

Warnock's a surprise over Baines but all the others were kind of predictable.

Good squad tho, IF Rooney stays fit then they have a chance!

Re: England Squad announced today

Apparently there are nine current or former West Ham players in the squad and nobody from Arsenal.

Should all club teams have a minimimum quota of players eligible for their country in their teams?

As said above Baines said he was homesick, which is probably the reason he isn't going.

Using that logic the Portsmouth team wouldd have been Israeli and Man U should all be Scot...
