Ibex Sunny day bike recommended?

I've been looking for a bike to ride around Lausanne as I left my cruiser in Sydney. It didn't have gears and so it wasn't going to work on the hills of Lausanne.

I want a pretty and useful bike to use around the streets of Lausanne and for day rides around the lake.

However I know very little about bikes and so need a little advice...

The gentleman in the bike store recommended the ibex (www.myibex.ch) sunny day bike for $1300 chf. Is this a good bike? Or can you advise of another that may fit my needs?

Many thanks.

Re: Ibex Sunny day bike recommended?

Hi there -
This may be a little late for a reply but i think the ibex bicycles are good buys. I've wrenched at a few shops and know a bit about bikes--i think they're well made (probably in asia, then get painted here) for the price point, modern looking, lightish (aluminum frames), clean, and look strong. the welds, the geometry, the craftsmanship.

There are a lot of other bikes out there that cost just as much but have no style points, heavier, and more expensive.

I think that style (sunny day) you mentioned is nice--pretty upright, but you may want to go with the easy day or lazy day--those are my styles i prefer since the seat is about level with the bars and it's a better stance for me(the sunny day would be very upright and your bars would be very high).

if you're taller, you may want to consider that if you haven't purchased a bike yet.

I just moved here (baar), left my 8 bikes behind in the US, and have been looking for an everyday commuter as well--those Ibex's are at the top of my list...

1300 CHF for a town bike! If you're not planing to ride it fast or aggressively (which is basically impossible with this type of bike) then you won't really notice the performance advantages that come with an expensive bike. Go with something cheaper.

Re: Ibex Sunny day bike recommended?

Here I disagree. An customer has had a IBEX "Road Bike Pure Energy Urban". Unfortunately his bike was stolen and he got from us a very similar new Fitnessbike to a similar price. After a first test ride he was so positive amazed about the big difference in terms of weight, shifting comfort and and weight. For 1300 CHF you can get definitely good stuff but It's also worth to compare.
