Re: Good road bike for beginners?

if you can travel to France, those are the best value I believe
Yes, they're good value. But maybe a little racy for gentle rides around town and light paths for someone just getting into it!

Check out the link below. A decent cromo fork soaks up the road buzz a bit, is tons lighter than a sus fork (which you likely don't need) and will handle significantly better than the Suntour fork specced on the other bike. It has hub gearing for very low maintenance, and decent 700c wheels which makes road & light trail riding smoother & faster. If you use their bike configurator, you can choose which saddle you want; even better give them a call as they can advise you. I have ordered from them for delivery in CH, was pretty fast. The other good thing about a bike like this is that it will last a very long time, and if you get into it, luggage racks can easily be added front & rear for touring!

If on the other hand, you reckon you'll spend most of your time off-road on rougher trails, then a mountain bike is better; check out Rose & Canyon for good value locally-available ones.
