Re: EF 2010 Golf Tournament

Would love to play.....don't have a handicap either at the moment. I havent been a member of a club for about 14 years. I'm about to apply for ASG card but have some questions. I did a round with a professional for a Platzreife certificate but have been told they will start me on a 36 handicap!!! Anyways maybe its too late in the year to pay for this AGS card (300chf) but I'm certainly much better than 36 suggests. I grew up next to a golf course as a child and played off a 14 handicapp when I was 14. Surely I would only annoy other golfers entering stablefords with 36 shots when I truly believe my handicap is in the single figures.

Still would love to come along to the EF golf day and mingle with fellow enthusiasts

Re: EF 2010 Golf Tournament

Certainly up for it if it's possible.

Mine is the same story as many, had a UK handicap for 10 years, moved to CH and it expired and getting one here is way too complicated and expensive.

The online handicaps don't work at private courses (at least didn't for me a couple of years back) but appeared to be ok for Migros courses.

A Migros course could be a good venue and should end up being cheaper than private courses but would need to be a weekday I think.

Off to polish me clubs .

People, if you have an old handicap card which has expired, it should not be a problem. There is no hard and fast rule, but I have seen friends with 2 year old + handicap cards being let on the golf course at Migros at least, and the good thing is that once you are on their computer system, you are on it forever and don't have to show it again.

If your handicap card has expired a long time ago, it may be worthwhile getting the Migros ASG card - you just need to submit a copy of it. What I have seen is if they see that your hcp card is really old, they will ask you what you play off now, and you can almost always say "well, I haven't played in a long time, so I am more like 16 and not 12 anymore..."

By the way, anyone fancy a casual round sometime? I am 12 handicap in Thalwil.
Sounds like a plan Axman...oh, and give me a shout if you fancy some company at the range - I have token that is burning a hole in my golf bag!

Luminous, when are we playing next, or does the beer tab need to be cleared first?!

Friday next week, early morning? I already have a game on Saturday 7th and Monday 9th. Beyond that.. crystal ball not so clear...

I usually prefer an early morning start, afternoon is also ok but needs more planning with wife/kids/car.

Luminous, tell me when u r heading to sempacher on a weekday next...

Sadly I'm usually only free to play after work (7pm) during the week, and at weekends, though I could take a day off to play 36 maybe? Any interest Luminous, perhaps Sempersee?

Re: EF 2010 Golf Tournament

Has anyone tried a handicap certificate or card from these ?

My brother tells me that he has used one on some pretty restrictive UK courses with no problems.

You have to nominate a UK home course - I will the club where I used to go every week and where I'm still well known - also I have many competition scorecards I can enter which appears to be a requirement.

I will try it out at a Migros course and see what happens. If it's ok, I'll join the Migros Golf Club - it's only 250 CHF a year and gets you a Swiss card and access to just about all Swiss courses.

EF 2010 Golf Tournament

There is a golf club for expats in Switzerland which was set up to overcome the issues faced by expats who may wish to play and do not want to buy a permanent private Swiss membership. They are a nice bunch of people, and though the ones i know are based near Zurich they also allow members from elsewhere as theirs is a non-course club. They are volunteers, and as far s I can see their only motivation is to get themselves a game or two - one or another of them is always available and they know where to play. Their membership must get them onto Swiss courses - or they wouldn't bother.

I hope this was helpful to someone,

Lisa

I had a look at the website several times in the past but they do not seem to be very active... maybe they don't update their website enough.

I would also be delighted to play. The Saturday would suite better if that were possible.

I got a Migros golf card when I arrived, but haven't used it much. I use the range in Otelfingen quiet a bit so if anyone is interested in hitting balls at weekends, drop me a message.

I'd be well up for this too, can I be included in any direct mailing regarding a tournament ? Both dates are fine with me, the Tuesday being preferrable.

Re: EF 2010 Golf Tournament

Is it possible to resurrect this thread or start a new one for a 2011 EF golf tournament?

Axman / daniel uk / anyone else - are you still interested in a game sometime - I play off 20 and now live near Thalwil too.
