Running Group in Lausanne

This is a group for people in Lausanne who would like to have the opportunity to run with friends and then have a drink afterwards.

It is for ALL ABILITY LEVELS, ALL SPEEDS, ALL ENERGY LEVELS, ALL AGES...BOYS AND GIRLS...PRETTY MUCH ANYONE IN A PAIR OF TRAINERS!!

As the group grows there is already a wide range of runners so whether you're starting to get fit or training for something serious there will be people here who you can pace yourself with.

We're meeting on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7.30pm by the three headed water "fountain" next to the pedaloes in Ouchy and across from the Crepe restaurant. Bring a 10 CHF note and we can all grab a beer or coke at the MGM bar afterwards...

Looking forward to seeing you,
Josh, Kathy and Nathaniel

Re: Running Group in Lausanne

Just a little bump to remind everyone that the running group is on tonight - and the weather looks perfect.
Lausanne Marathon (or 1/2 or the 10km) is only 3 months away - time to get into it and start the preparations if you haven't already.

Feel free to PM me if you need more details (meeting spot is in the first post at 19.30hrs)

There was quite a good turn out - I think 16 or 17 people. We divided into 2 groups with one group coming with me to do some urban training (running with some strength/core work), designed for those getting back into running. The other group went for a nice run. We all joined up for a beer or 2 after.
I think tonight will be a smaller group given the weather.
Hope to see you next week.
Cheers
Kathy

Hi Sky,

Not at all - well maybe trained at being social and having a beer after There are a couple of good runners, but plenty of us that just enjoy getting out for a gentle run/walk along the lake.
During the first 5 sessions this year I ran some cross training sessions (bootcamp/running) and we had over 10 beginners, or people that were getting back into running after a long break. It was a lot of fun and even some of the good runners preferred to join out group.

I am out of town this coming week, but will be back next week, so if anyone would like to join but is a bit worried about running - please PM me. Time to enjoy this lovely weather and prepare for the upcoming ski season.
Cheers

Kathy

Re: Running Group in Lausanne

Great to hear Sky.

The next one will be this Monday at 7.30pm. I won't be there, but Josh will be to look after the group. More details of the group are on Glocals.com under Lausanne 'things to do'.

Hope to see you the week after.

Re: Running Group in Lausanne

Just an update. The running group is still going, but we now start at 7pm on Mon and Wed nights in Ouchy.
It's starting to get a bit cold and dark, but we all rug up and carry a head torch - so it's a nice refreshing, but still social workout along the lake. There have also been some Sat morning runs in Chalet-a-Gobet.

Less than two weeks till the Lausanne Marathon, Half marathon and 10km events, so keep on training. Also time to get the skiing fitness on track -now the white stuff is back on the mountains.

Hope you still plan to drop by Sky?

Re: Running Group in Lausanne

Um.. I am considering joining tonight.. Just one little question, what can I wear for running in this COLD weather..

I know it's still not winter.. but I now wear my heaviest jacket to work. I can put on my trainers and maybe a sweater but what do we do after the running when we're all sweaty and it's cold?!

If you're by now thinking I'm making a big deal out of it.. Remind yourself, I come from Africa :-)!

You need to dress in several lighter layers of clothing. The number of layers is a personal thing and comes from how well acclimatised you are to the cold. It hasn't actually been very cold lately, still well above 0 deg.

First layer should be a thermal top made from high-wicking (absorbes the sweat) material. The middle layer could be a fleece when its really cold or just a long sleeve running top (Never wear cotton because it holds the moisture and you will stay wet and cold). The outer layer is a breathable jacket such as gore-tex jacket which will protect you from wind and rain, while still letting the moisture out.

For the legs, I wear light windproof running pants with 3/4 thermals (or if really cold full length) underneath. Some people prefer shorts with thermals under - it depends on how fashionable you are.
Most important is to protect your hands, feet and head, so wear light themal gloves, a beanie (hat) and good socks. You can loose up to 70% of body heat through these areas.

Always stay well hydrated when exercising in the cold, as the chances of hypothermia are increased with dehydration.

If you have a pocket in your jacket - carry a spare thermal and put it on at the end of the run. This is the best solution. Otherwise you can just remove the bottom shirt if it is still wet from sweat and keep the other layers on. Don't overdress when running - otherwise you will sweat more. I normally wear the jacket or the middle layer around my waist (after warming up) and put it on at the end.

Also bring a light headtorch if you have one - there are normally a couple in the group, but its always good to have your own.

Oh - and Sky, we never leave anyone behind in the group. This Monday will be some ski-fit urban fitness training - so not just running, but an extra strength workout for the core and legs - the ski season is not far away, so be prepared.

Re: Running Group in Lausanne

Hello all.
I think DH and I will join tonight as long as it's not raining too hard.

Can someone confirm the address where we meet? I dont know where this Crepe place is, so that doesnt help much....even the GPS code would be perfect!

Where does one find a head light? would coop or migros carry them?

thanks!

We meet just next to Chateau D'Ouchy (Vevey side), the road is Place du Vieux Port. Across the road from the Angleterre/Beau Rivage Hotels.

You will find head torches in any of the sport shops (Yosemite, One more tandem, Ochsner, Migros Sport xxx). Something small and light, like the Petzl Tikka does the trick.
