Re: Seeking a Gym in Basel - any tips ?

If I was living in the area of Pratteln, I would consider the gym at Aquabasilea, by the Courtyard Marriot. The place is beautiful and brand new. They offer memberships for the fitness area:

Can you use the Radisson without staying there though?

The Radisson Blu hotel at Heuwagge (3 minutes walk from Indigo/JV) also has a newly kitted out gym and a pool. The cost is something like CHF370 for 3 months.
I have a friend who stays there 4 nights a week and he says it´s very good and usually not so busy.
I was wondering if they took memberships besides hotel guests since none of the gyms seem to have pools. I sent them an email last week and no one has gotten back to me. Might have to pop in and speak to someone.

Re: Seeking a Gym in Basel - any tips ?

I am a member of Indigo Fitness since a few weeks now. It's great so far, very stylish and their services are very very convenient. I mean have you ever heard of a gym which gives you free mineral water and free coffee and free luxury cosmetics?
If you look at what they offer the membership fee looks relativly low. They had a founder member special which was valid until the end of November. Now you can save some money if your company has a partnership with Indigo. Mine doesn't (Novartis) so I was kind of lucky that I managed to become a member before the end of their founder member special.

Is there someone here who is already an Indigo member as well?

3 months for 375 chf. 6 months for 710chf, 1 year for 1200chf. I think it may be cheaper for " Ehepaarabonnement whatever that means - is it for couples? )730, 1300 and 2300

Re: Seeking a Gym in Basel - any tips ?

That's actually cheaper than the City gym - and there's a pool!! Definitely worth checking out.

Also, I was just handed a flyer today about a new Gym at Clara Huus. It is just a gym - no classes, no sauna, steam room but there is an introductory 2 months for 24.90 a month!!! and then 29.90 a month if you take a year membership. I think we might do the intro offer at least it would give me some cardio.

I don't think it opens until the 15th of Jan I could understand everything on the flyer. It is called Fitmade (already one in Bern) and the website is:

http://www.fitmade.com/FITmade_Fitne...made_News.html

If anyone can clarify the details I'd appreciate it

Re: Seeking a Gym in Basel - any tips ?

I saw that flyer as well, but decided on the simplicity of the Radisson deal after visiting it's gym. OUt of curiousuty today, simply because I was walking past, I checked out the deals at the MIgros gym by Red Rock. It has also got a pool, but the price per 10 sessions is more and there is no 3 or 6 month option, just a 12 month, which is also more than the Radisson. THe only advantage for some people, would be the variety of extra classes that are on offer at Migros, plus if you are someone who likes big gyms with more people coming and going. Okay.....I'm off to the Rad now! :-)

Re: Seeking a Gym in Basel - any tips ?

I go to that gym and love it!! People are really nice, it is very clean and a lot of availability from the trainers. The pool is really nice and the spa as well. I never had to wait to use a machine and even when it is busy, you don't feel like it is crowded. I really love that gym and for the first time in my life I didn't feel like an ''obligation'' to go but always happy to go.

Sadly, with this pregnancy I am not able to train with all the joints getting loose. My hips are too fragile to handle most of the exercices I was used to do.

So because of this, I am looking to sell my registration there. I have been waiting since a while because I was hoping I'll get better. It has 7 months left and I am willing to do a deal (like 7 months for the price of 6). So if you are interrested send me a PM. I didn't put an add yet, which I'll do at the beginning of the week.

My abonnement included the classes by the way! You can go to as many as you want during the week.

Nil

Re: Seeking a Gym in Basel - any tips ?

With regards to the Radisson Gym, does any have more details, or perhaps a link to a web page?

Also can someone tell me what their opening hours are?

It may be of interest, but here is a summary for most of the gyms mentioned so far (based on 12 month membership):

Fitness Plus 1,070
Bodyline 1,188
Forum Sport (have to ask them)
City Gym - you have to ask them, but from memory it was about 1,300 and that was with a company discount of 10% (Roche).
Colosseum 599 or 899 including Thai Box classes
Migros 1,060 (w'out classes)
John Valentine 1,490
Indigo 1,690
Radisson 1,200
Aqua Basilea 1,250

Re: Seeking a Gym in Basel - any tips ?

That Fitmade place looks good too good to be true ... CHF300 for 12 months.

On their website it says
On 15 January 2011 opens the second FITmade Fitness Center in Switzerland. In Teichgässlein 9, in Basel. We will have an open house on 22nd December 2010, between 9.00 - 21.00 clock.

The really attractive thing for me about this place, are their opening hours 06:00 - 23:00. Would allow me to get back into the routine I had in Aus, where I can go and have a good work out, before going to work, otherwise I leave it until the end of the day, it just doesn't happen.

Re: Seeking a Gym in Basel - any tips ?

Thanks for the summary Swissmorg - very useful for people to be able to do the comparisons.
Re Radisson: open 365 days a year. Mon-Fri: 0700 to 2200hrs, Sat, 0800 to 2000hrs. sunday: 0800 to 1400hrs, then1700 to 2000hrs. Price includes, gym. towels, pool, finnish sauna, dampfbad ( what is that?) a Thursay morning water aerobics class ( 1000hrs) and "gymnastikletionen: MOn and Thurs at `815 to 1900. I haven't asked, but am wondering if the membership is able to be used at Rads in other places as well. I went tonight, and loved it - nice and quiet. Room for a peaceful swiim after working out. Pleeeeease, don-t anyone else join up!!!!!!

Re: Seeking a Gym in Basel - any tips ?

More: The Radisson gym is small and is doesn't have the social atmosphere for meeting up and making new friends.

I joined John Valentine two years ago and hated it enough to stop going despite the amount of money I had paid. For me, having friendly, helpful staff is important. NOt impressed with sour faced female staff, nor with posing , muscle flexing, egotistical, staff. For anyone looking for a bigger gym with a pool, I would recommend Migros

Gym in Basel

Dear all,
I am looking for a Gym in Basel.
I would be able to go only in weekends, (so not sure if I can find weekend rates).
Is anyone familiar with the gyms I can find?
Thanks in advance,

Re: Seeking a Gym in Basel - any tips ?

What gyms in Basel or nearby have a pool and other amenities? Do they have activities for kids as well? We are members of www.lifetimefitness.com/Alpharetta and pay $110 per month for a family membership. I think thats great due to all the amenities it offers.
