| | Mountain Bike Meet in Zurich
How many people here on the forum would be game to meet up of a summer evening to do some mountainbiking after work. I discussed this yesterday with another forum member and we thought that it might be fun to organise a mountainbike meet for english speakers. The proposal would be to meet at Triemli tram station and ride up Uetliberg and take the bike trail back down. The trail itself is is fairly technical (some steep sections, roots and tight corners) so a certain amount of skill is required.
So who's game?

Just name the date and time
I hope we get a few dry days soon or else we'll be better off going canyoning |

I'm still game... Can't say I'm a total downhill freak but I'll go for a spin some evening. The trails in Uetliberg are seriously muddy at the moment, but if the forecast stays good hopefully they might start to dry up over the next week.
If you are into Downhilling and jumps etc have you discovered the bike park on Pfanensteil yet?

I'm definitely up for this. Though I'll have to wait until the end of the month when me, my bike and my riding gear are all living in the same building.
That is if you donät mind that my current bike is a bit of a dog going up the hills. I built it for doing shuttle runs back home in Oz. I'll start building a bike that goes up and down the hills once I settle into Zürich and I have a few pay checks under my belt.

Its on the Meilen side of the hill. If you follow the fireroad down from the Restaurant, and go downhill until the second 4 way junction. Take a right past a field and when you get back into the forest there should be a single trail on your left. Take this and follow it down. It will cross another fireroad and keep going, Then it widens out to a place where someone has built a few jumps and a pretty high northshore trail. The trail the runs beside is a pretty fun XC trail. The trail and the park is not very long, and I have never seen anyone actually ride it.
My directions might not be that great, I usually just ride there and can't remember the exact lefts and rights I take!!! Would be game for going riding the trails there some evening though if someone wants to go. I'll be carefully avoiding the jumps though!!! |

Pfanensteil? No.
Last summer I went a couple times to the park in feldsbach and was really disappointed. The swiss have not really caught on to making bike parks yet, it is probably because they are to concerned about hurting the environment. I know there are a couple parks but nothing too special. Although before coming to switzerland I had only ridden the Whistler Bike Park which from what I hear is the best in the world, so I guess my standard is high. I am not a good down-hill rider though!
I am busy for the next week or so but maybe in the end of July I could meet up for a ride. Maybe I'll set up a doodle to organize some days. I have a lot of week days off, but usually work on weekends.

Radar
Jekyll
Ski Freek
Woodsie
BiBadLab
are all on for this but all can't neccesarily make it for the next few weeks. The weather is looking great for the next few days so maybe we could try a ride with anyone that can make it on Monday or Tuesday (16th or 17th July), see how it goes and if the weather holds then those who can't make it this time can come along next time.
Which suits better? Or has someone another suggestion?

Hi Once again, sorry about not replying in a while...
If the weather is good next week how about we go biking some evening next week?
What nights would be preferable?

Lets see.
Monday - Move into new apartment and start unpacking.
Tuesday - Move the last of my stuff and unpack essentials (riding gear)
Wednesday - Go for a ride!!!
Yep, put down my vote for a Wednesday evening ride. Weather forecast looks a little damp. But if I learnt one thing spending last summer in the UK, it's that rain is no excuse to not go riding... (Unless of course riding wet trails destroys them, which it often can back in Australia with the dry, sandy soils).

Well... What goes down has to go up first!!! So I think we will have some uphill either way.
I usually have something else on Wednesdays but I might just give it a miss next week. How about meeting somewhere like Burkliplatz by the lake at 6:30 on Wednesday. We can choose a route from there either Uetliberg or Zuriberg and be on our way.
Any other takers?

Sounds good. Being new here I am happy to leave the route finding to others.
Realistically, as this will be the first time I will have attempted to navigate myself from work to my new home then cycle into the city, it may be closer to 7:00 by the time I get there. But I will aim for 6:30.
I'll be the lost Australian wandering around on a big, olive green Cannondale, blue fox jersey and camo white helmet. |
