Re: Jiu Jitsu / MMA in Bern?

I can personally recommend Sc Nippon Bern http://www.nipponbern.ch and JJCB http://www.jjcb.ch/ for classical (japanese) Jiut Jitsu. Both also have good Judo sections, Nippon additionaly Karate (Goju Ryu, don't know how good that is) and a fine Kickboxing section.

If however you are really looking for MMA, cage fighting or brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Vale Tudo etc, these clubs are not where you want to go.

Re: Jiu Jitsu / MMA in Bern?

I think the more classical styles can be fine as long as there is some sparring and and they are not obsessed with doing kata all day.

I'm not into it at competition level anyway, more just for keeping somewhat in shape and I don't mind trying out something new. Thanks for the recommendation.

I'm curious to know why not.
We're in Switzerland, it isn't as brutal as elsewhere. Just like the army you know ... all very harmless.

At Nippon, they do Fighting System for competition (light contact) with some succesfull athletes, so you would no be doing kata all day. The dojo is right next to the main station.

She was just pointing out that shooting somebody in the face with a .12 gauge looks a lot nicer when done in front of a traditional swiss farmhouse with lots of geranium

Edit: That was not directed towards people doing MMA.

Re: Jiu Jitsu / MMA in Bern?

Kalpz, paawllo,

I've just moved to Bern this week, and am looking for a place to train as well. I'm not even sure where to look. I did find a Dog Brother's school in central Bern. I was going to give that a try. But if you guys know of anyplace else, or start training somewhere, please let me know.

As for me, I've been training for a while, just came from Team Fairtex in California. Looking to train mma, no-gi, muy thai, or anything in that area.

Good luck to all of us in finding a place!

Re: Jiu Jitsu / MMA in Bern?

Looking at the fact that you are mentioning MMA as well, I assume you mean Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?

If so, I can recommend Augusto Frota's gym who have a gym in Bern as well:

@Harrie Nak, thanks for the info, I'll check them out. Do you know if they train gi or no-gi? Although looking at the website, it looks like they train Gi 2 times a week.
