I'm very lucky to have been to Winterpark several times and to Steamboat too - great skiing. BUT never found champagne powder - I think its a myth! LOL. Have experienced it just a few times in my life. First time in Zinal - then a couple of times in Verbier area, Val d'Isere and StFoy Tarentaise.

The winter of 05-06 (the last before I moved here) was the most epic season EVER (well, statistically in the last 50 years) Every morning from mid December until early March I would wake up to snow plows (the best alarm when living in a ski town) Every day was a powder day! Some days there might be an inch or two other days knee to waste deep. I have never had so many bottomless powder days in one season. And the best part about Colorado storms is that 85% of them happen over night, leaving a blue sky powder day in its wake. It is not a myth, its real. I was there, I saw it.
Bottomless powder. God I miss saying those words. Now I am home sick.
Bottomless Champagne Powder.....
Of course the down side is when you get stuck, you have to swim through it. Sooo much work just to move one foot at a time. And I remember around late January I was wishing it would stop snowing just to take some lazy runs on hardpack groomers. My legs were pretty big after that season.

In this soggy weather, I went passed flag decorated little tiny Glarus to Elms this morning (navi took me almost to military base ). Still green pastures at 1000m but there is snow visible on the upper part of the mountains, there were some hikers and cable car was running. Just collected the leaflet from the office. Let's hope, there will be more snow everywhere and soon...

was up la dole today for what i thought was a walk up to the top ........ had to give up half way as it was just too dangerous - started snowing heavily, light vanished, and super slippery underfoot. So, hiking season over, hopefully be up there in a bit with skis!

Normally downhill around Les Rousses, so close and with some fantastic tree lined and enjoyable slopes - particularly the competition run in La Dole...and of course, we have fantastic cross country all around La Givrine across to France and back!

Went to Saas Fee and it was very good! Snow was good for carving, weather sunny and snow stayed wonderfully dry despite the sunshine but temp remained below freezing the whole day. Only minus were the long queues to the t-bar lifts.
Saas Fee is my favorite pre-season destination with three lifts and five to six runs open. Perfect to get the feel and refresh your skills! I personally prefer Saas Fee to Zermatt because SF has steeper glacier runs than Zermatt and is of course closer to Zurich.

I hiked to the top a few weeks ago and saw the lifts but didn't know how the runs would be. Is there any area to do tricks on a snowboard? Sorry I'm a noob but Shane sold me a bunch of gear today so I have to take advantage of all the opportunities I have. And the Dole is definitely close!
