"This mountain is a lot like a woman, just when you think you know every square inch of her and your about to stick your skis in some soft, deep powder...BANG!! You got two broke legs, cracked ribs then you pay your 20 bucks just to let her punch your lift ticket all over you"

Love this movie, great intro

which brings us to the best drunk prank ever.

Re: Skiing/Snowboarding 2010/2011

You'd be hard pushed to have enough snow in the trees. Very few open and its only the upper runs. There is still relativly speaking very little snow.

Near Neuchatel you'll be hard pushed. The resorts that I know are open are:

Engelberg (Glacier)
Laax (Glacier)
Davos (Only Jakobshorn)
St. Moritz (Corvatsch and Diavolezza)
Zermatt
Saas - Fee
Glacier 3000 (I think)
Andermatt (Gemstock)

Ski season doesn't actually really kick off until the middle of December. It's still very very early. I'm organising a group outing to Davos tomorrow but it's probably a bit of a trek from Neuchatel.

In Suisse Romande, Zinal is opened at week-ends too. And so is the top of Verbier.

Re: Skiing/Snowboarding 2010/2011

Really? I was groaned at for posting a ski and snowboard movie? Are we 13 years old? Someone get their feelings hurt? Ahhhh, here's a teddy bear and a twix to make you feel better.

Sorry, I didn't realize we had a film critic here. I know its not Oscar winning stuff but come on. Its a ski movie.

Great place with awesome tree runs. What is the best place in Switzerland for trees runs? From what I have seen I would think Chatel and PDS but I have never been there in winter (thats going to change this season) There is a mom and pop hill named Rotwald (near Brig) which has some really nice tree runs but for the most part it seems there is never enough snow at tree level (or good snow as it melts then refreezes) until late season and even then the stumps are still a danger. Or am I just going to the wrong places?

Re: Skiing/Snowboarding 2010/2011

Yes, I love Winterpark too- a friend of our is an 'ambassador' there so we get free passes - even better! Difficult to compare CO with CH. Tree line in Co is about 3000m whereas here is 2000m. Skied Chatel/Super Chatel, Morgins many times, and it's all fairly open. I've skied so many resorts in CH and can't think of many good tree runs - perhaps the lower part of Arosa. Thinking of it, I think skiing through trees is defo not encouraged because of damage to trees and disturbance to wildlife- same as skidos are strictly controlled.

To all who search ski in Switzerland, i recommend you travel to Bad Gastein in Austria (very cheap train tickets now!). Good ski routes, cheaper hotels!

Les Diablerets has some off-piste tree skiing, but it opens in Jan.

For now - Zermatt is the best!

Re: Skiing/Snowboarding 2010/2011

regarding "Chinese Downhill" -- yearly in Arlberg there's a big ski race, "Der weisse Ring" (website with Vorarlberger Alpine music! ), "the longest ski race in the world". Also quite some videos on YouTube about this traditional ski race which dates back many many years ("over 50 years") !
