Indoor wall climbing, around Zürich

Hello everyone,

Since some time now I am interested in learning and practicing wall climbing. I live around Zürich and I found two nice indoor climbing centers Kletterzentrum Milandia in Greifensee and Kletterzentrum Gaswerk in Schlieren. The problem is that I have never done it before, and when I asked for the Grundkurs 1 (the basic climbing course) they recommended me to find an english speaking partner since I am not so fluent in german.

So, I am wondering if anyone would like to join me, or if anyone has some tips.

Adrian.

Hi Adrian,

Did you find a partner yet?

I am also looking for a group for indoor climbing in Zurich or around.

Regards,
Radu.

I want to start going to schliren 2X per week, considering a super long break I would call myself a complete novice but will be looking to take some courses starting from the ground up. It would be great to meet up some time on the wall.

Cheers

Hi all,

I am also interested in trying it out.
Never done it before but want to learn.

I think taking a few classes will help and going in a english speaking group will help in arranging an instructor.

Please give me a shout when anybody is going.

Cheers
Pankaj

Re: Indoor wall climbing, around Zürich

Hi everyone,

I actually work at Milandia but nothing to do with the climbing centre, I work as a golf teacher there on and off filling in for a pro who left us.

As I understand it is the largest indoor climbing centre in Switzerland.

I'm also keen to have a go so if anyone is heading down let me know and we can get some info.

Re: Indoor wall climbing, around Zürich

English speaking instructors are not a problem, I wrote to Gaswerk regarding instructors and courses. They will get back to me with some information. For the first course you need to have a partner as the instructor will not allow you to belay them.

Pricing will be dependant on group size so lets add up how many people are interested and can go. With some commitment we can ask for a quote. personally I want to do the course ASAP but expect to be away next week and the second week of June. I think it might be possible to do the course over two sessions rather than three, and this would be the preferable option for me.

Gaswerks needs to know at least one week in advance to arrange an instructor. If anyone is interested in arranging something for May 21st/28th let me know.

I am am also in but will need to check as my schedule can change by day.

Went through the course once but some time ago so would be good do it again.

In any case, no matter how we do the courses, afterwards would be great to get together there.

Radu.

Re: Indoor wall climbing, around Zürich

I talked with Gaswerk today and got the following info:
the course is possible to do in 2 days, may 21 and 28th are available (one would have to be a double day)

if 4 peopole sign up that its CHF 95 (per session per person)
if 6 than its CHF 80 per session per person.

so depending on the total group size the cost per person would be CHF 285 or 240

of course we need an even number of people so that everyone has a partner.

Re: Indoor wall climbing, around Zürich

I'm a regular climber at Schlieren, and can highly recommend their courses (I did my lead-rope climbing course there).

It is a highly addictive sport and would recommend it to anyone, and makes excellent cross-training for my running and cycling. If you do become a regular, you can equip yourself for about 300chf (or 450chf with a rope if you progress to lead climbing). Consumable costs will be shoes (with regular climbing they last about 6 months) and a climbing centre membership (about 950chf, valid at both Milandia and Schlieren).

Re: Indoor wall climbing, around Zürich

With the annual membership you get a CHF 100 voucher for their shop if you buy for CHF 300 or more. If you are a SAC member I think you can get a discount on the actual abo. For the course gym entry, harness and shoes are provided at no extra charge.

For those who can commit please PM me and we can discuss how to proceed. If we can get a couple more people than we can optimise the cost.
