Ice Skating Rinks (info 2010-2011)

Great news! The Dolder rink, which is outside, opened on October 8th. It's a fabulous to go to and is magical at night lit by fairy lights and surrounded by trees. The café isn't bad and you can sit outside next to the rink enjoying the fun and the food. They do parties for anyone interested with various menu's that are quite reasonable.

I went to play Chneble last Tuesday at Oerlikon Eisbahn, and found the ice quality to be excellent ! This early season is a great time for skating.

Free Ice Skating in Oerlikon/Heuried on first Wednesday of Month

There is Free Ice Skating in Zürich Oerlikon or Heuried on the first Wednesday of each month in season.

http://www.stadt-zuerich.ch/ssd/de/i...ml#contenttabs

Gratis Eislaufen
Jeden 1. Mittwoch im Monat (3. November, 1. Dezember, 5. Januar, 2. Februar, 2.

I have been a couple of times but never enjoyed it, not sure if my cheap skates are useless or I am. I may give it a last shot on Wednesday.

Maybe this offer will interest someone?

Swiss Ice rinks

I'm looking to play some hockey around the Baden area...

Problem is, I've visited 4 teams/rinks and ALL of them are open air.

That's fine for games (on occasion) but getting rained on or snowed on during practices suck!

Can anyone point me to the closest rink that actually has a roof???

Probably too far, but we skate here:

Not a full-sized rink, but I think they do play some hockey there...

Re: Swiss Ice rinks

So let's do it the logical way and, since the title of the Thread leaves the location open, we could find out where all the rinks are.

Swiss Ice Rinks.

Unfortunately, the Site is rather out of date. Zürcher telephone numbers no longer begin with '01' but either '044' or '043'

Still, the list will give some idea of where the rinks are. Covered ones are fewer on the ground though.

Re: Swiss Ice rinks

Thanks for the link - I'll go through it.

BTW, are all of the listed rinks covered? If not, how can I tell without going for a drive?

Re: Swiss Ice rinks

Probably hardly any covered. If you click and open them up, look for the word 'Halle' which will have a roof. Probably Eisfeld or Eisbahn won't. Some places have both but the covered bit will probably be used for lessons or similar. Aarau used to be like that. Skating in the rain doesn't half help to learn to keep your balance though. Ice is super slippery and if you fall... splash!

This is another Ice Rink/Skating Club Site I just fell over...

Re: Ice Skating Rinks (info 2010-2011)

I wish our skating rink in Fleurier had not been covered up- it is just not the same indoor. The best skating is to be had 'au naturel' at the Lac Des Taillères (La Brévine NE) - when the lake freezes solid, about 2 .5km long and 1/2 km wide. On a sunny day, it is a winter wonderland. Skates can be hired there, + vin chaud, hot chestnuts, Bratwurst, etc - wonderful. But this is usually from Mid Jan to Feb- depending on weather. if conditions are really good I'll post here, and maybe we can meet there.

When I was a kid my dad used to drive the car onto the ice, and strap our sledges at the back with big ropes- then race as fast as he could and do hand-break turns- that was fun (yes dad was a nutter - and skied until he was 94 years old- RIP papa).

Does the Oerlikon place provide teaching ice skating - I'm quite old to start it now but it has been a dream of mine since I was a kid and I thought if the UK celebrities can learn to do it at various ages, I should be able to at least stay standing for some time.

If any info on costs that would also be good.

Many thanks

No, I think Worb and Wichtrach are the 2 closest covered rinks to Bern. Oh Lyss and Burgdorf have covered rinks too. Post Finance, as you see has a public outdoor rink. There's also an inside rink there, but it's mainly for the pro team and occasionally amature or youth games, but I never saw public skating there indoors.

I never saw any skating lessons advertised anywhere, it's more like strap on a helmet and skates and get out there and figure it out. If you mean ice-dancing lessons, then yea, you can probably find a private instructor if you ask at the rink or some local skate shops. But I think you should have some skating basics down first before you contact them (unless you're a UK celeberty )
