True. But it all adds to the authenticity, no?

The allies used to give away valuable information during WWII from time to time, to maintain the credibility of the sources.

It's not a new technique by any means.
So the question is, do the releases on balance benefit the US?

I'd still say 'no'. There is now a problem of rebuilding trust with nations mentioned in the cables. Previous relations were based on the idea of secrecy and it will be hard to restore trust. I'm not saying that trust was ever truly justified or that there was straight talking behind closed doors. Nevertheless, there were different layers of communication that served different functions.

They all know they hate each others, they all know they's enemies, but for the sake of money and imperial expansion, everyone acts like a friend, this is the real world we are living in.

That's obvious.

The point I was making is that there are still different levels of communication and they have different functions.

Saudi Arabia thinks it's useful for them to be able to tell the US in private that they'd like Iran to be attacked. Wikileaks is challenging that notion of privacy. Whichever way it goes, US diplomatic practice, even if it's just clearance levels, will have to change.

Wikileaks Julian Assange loses appeal

Julian Assange loses appeal

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-18261670

Wikileaks founder Julian Assange has lost his Supreme Court fight against extradition to Sweden to face accusations of sex offences.
The court's president, Lord Phillips, told the hearing the appeal was dismissed because "the request for Mr Assange's extradition has been lawfully made".
In response Mr Assange's lawyer, Dinah Rose QC, spoke of her concerns about the judgement and requested a period of time to consult her client and consider an appeal.
Julian Assange is accused of raping one woman and "sexually molesting and coercing" another in Stockholm in August 2010, although he claims that the allegations against him are politically motivated.

Re: Wikileaks moves to Switzerland

Was reading about this a short while ago. Two judges did not agree, and Assange's solicitors have 14 days to decide if they want to appeal. So it aint over yet!
