Well at least you gave it some thought, which is probably more that alot of sheep like Yes voters did. Good for you.
(Nice first post.)
I gave it considerable thought - and voted "Yes". If it stopped one loss of life, it was worth it...

Re: Swiss Firearms Vote Feb 13, 2011

Well bully for you, because that's what you obviously are! Just like the EU would not accept Irelands rejection of the Lisbon treaty - you will not accept the popular vote. Well listen up, we're going to defeat this inititive, we've learnt alot and so have the people so we will be stronger and much better equiped to vote down anyone who would betray our country again.

This is good news 57% NO vote. Time for the anti's to move into an anti country so they can live with themselves

While I share your joy about the result, I think you don't quite get yet what Switzerland is about, do you?

"Well listen up" who said I would not accept the result?? The initiative is defeated.

Personally I think it's a pity, because anything that reduces weapons is a good thing...

I can't help wondering...

...how voting according to one's conscience makes one a bully.

...how voting according to one's conscience constitutes a failure to accept the popular vote.

...how you expect to "vote down" something in Switzerland (which has somehow become "[y]our country"), when Ireland is the only nationality indicated in your profile.

Re: Swiss Firearms Vote Feb 13, 2011

I too am very sorry that the initiative did not pass. I think AbFab has a very valid point.. any step that saves lives is always good.

The people have a right to have an opinion and the beauty of this country is that, that opinion can actually be considered by the law-making government, regardless of the result of this or any other vote.

That is, in my honest opinion, a true liberty.

Re: Swiss Firearms Vote Feb 13, 2011

I am just about to board a flight back to Switzerland, having spent 5 glorious days stalking in Highlands. Very happy that the initiative has been defeated. Commiserations to the losers, but had you broached the idea of gun control in a more grown up manner, I might have supported some of the measures, such as relieving the soldier of the responsibility of keeping his weapon at home.

Re: Swiss Firearms Vote Feb 13, 2011

Any true decison made with heart and mind could only be taken by reading the information sent with the voting papers.
All else was just people's opinions.

Oh yes, if it saves just one live it must be a good thing, so we probably shouldn't stop at restricting gun rights, should we?

Well, for a start we could outlaw planes, trains and automobiles. Would save thousands of lives.
Then all those dangerous ladders... and while we're at it we could outlaw multi-story buildings hence no more stairs, elevators, escalators and dangerous balconies. Would save a few lives for sure.
Oh, and bridges... ban those damn bridges! No more bridges to jump from to commit suicide!
Don't forget sports, not just bungee-jumping and skydiving but also rock-climbing, skiing, swimming and so on... let's ban it all!!
And ban alcohol!! It's from the devil anyway and banning it would save so many lives!
Yeah! Banning is such fun!! And it's a good thing if it saves just one live!

Oh...?

No?!?

I've gone too far? But I thought if it saved just one live...?!?

Oh well, never mind.

This is such a mindless argument.

Guns don't get me where I want to go. Cars, trains and planes do.
Guns are not a place to live or work in.
Guns don't cross rivers and gorges.

I can't be bothered writing any more...

I did the same and honestly, I don't see yet that anybody will prohibit shooting clubs and competitions... Plus, do you really believe it is wise to hand out assault rifles to 14 year olds?

It can`t be any worst then some of the Video Games

That was exactly my point, because with "if it saves just one live" you can justify just about any idiocy one can think of, no matter how much collateral damage it does besides "saving just one live".
