So what is the
Wakker Heritage Prize ?
The Wakker Prize (in German:
Wakkerpreis, in French
Prix Wakker, in Italian
Premio Wakker) is awarded annually by the
Swiss Heritage Society to a Municipality of Switzerland for the development and preservation of its architectural heritage.
In 2005, the prize was given to the
Swiss Federal Railways, rather than a municipality.
The prize is named for
Henri-Louis Wakker
This year Lausanne West won it. On Tuesday, the Swiss Heritage Society praised the “district spirit” that had helped to renew the area. The society awards the annual prize to a town or village in recognition of successful urban planning developments.
Nine communities have been recognised for their coordinated approach to area development, the upgrade of the existing housing situation and the creation of a common identity.
“Ouest lausannois” is comprised of Bussigny, Chavannes, Crissier, Ecublens, Prilly, Renens, St-Sulpice, Villars-Ste-Croix and Lausanne.
