But actually my real motive was to start a lasting discussion with some new people and I succeeded.
But are you actually interested in learning about Switzerland as it is, or merely seeking to have your preconceptions confirmed?

You know that Switzerland is about as far from being an American's idea of a libertarian paradise as it's possible for a country to be?

You'd be better off going to Greece. They have lots of laws, but nobody takes a blind bit of notice of them, nor does anyone pay any tax. Most people have guns under their beds, too, inherited from grandads who used them to take potshots at the occupying German army.

You'd love it.

Well brother, get ready, because being a foreigner - here or anywhere else - is going to 'make your pride uneasy' harder and oftener than anything the internet can throw at you.
I think I'll be okay.

If by "this" you are referring to me. Then yes, I would think that is an accurate statement.
Yeah . . . God-fearing Texan Libertarian . . . Had to be a fan of Ron Paul. I was surprised someone else found it a strange combination of beliefs.

I hope so! Haven't seen much sign of it yet but I reckon you will. Life has a way of toughening people up when they need it.

You've not been here yet, have you?

Just wait till some Swiss skinhead overhears you talking loudly in a Texan accent on the train, and tell me you'll be ok...

I concur. Better food, better weather, nice beaches, good-looking girls.

Hang on. What am I doing here?

I've been here nearly three years I've never seen a Swiss skinhead. Where are they all?

Sure, of course I want to know about current Switzerland.

Ya'll are confirming the preconception that the Swiss aren't very personable. Why are the leaders of this forum driving off a new member? Ich verstahe nicht.

And by the way, if you knew anything about me, you'd know that Greece is the last place I'd want to be.

In Dubendorf, picking on Brazilian lawy... oh, hang on...

There must be some somewhere!

(Actually there are a few down the Gold Coast, but I think they're more into the fashion than the politics)

Then why aren't you interested in what you are being told about the country by people who actually live here?

How many of your correspondents have been Swiss, so far?

My God man, have you not realized, despite being told several times, that the vast majority of the people in this thread are NOT Swiss?
In fact, one of the best and most useful posts was by a Swiss member.

Not that many of the contributors on this thread are Swiss . . .

Why the aversion to Greece? Tricky alphabet?

Well, then the people that want to be associated with the Swiss aren't personable.
