Heathens, nazis, nutters and Derek...

EDIT: Safe for work, if you work in the kind of place where the dress code includes leather, jackboots and moustaches.

Is Pan-Germanism something to do with Esskultur?

Re: Pan-Germanic consciousness in Switzerland?

What a bunch of cockbuckets.
I mean seriously, they probably see themselves as some sort of wannabe Saxon/Viking thing torn from the pages of piss-poor seventies fantasy literature - a sort of pony-tailed Conan the Barbarian. Coupled to the fact that they're a bunch of armed neo-Nazi dickwads...
If anything, that forum makes an excellent directory of people to avoid.
We get a few of those in re-enactment, but in the decent groups, they get drummed out pretty quick. Unfortunately, some of the SS groups are made entirely of them. We've nearly had a few run-ins with them, especially when one of our lot took them up on why they all had the highest Nazi decorations.

I don't want to offend the 'ancient battle re-enactors' here (god knows I don't want the Normans invading!) but from what I've seen of these guys they all buy their own kit and they all appear to want to be the general with the different coloured epaulets, not many foot-soldiers, y'know. Bit silly when you see an army of Julius Cesars.

I thought it looked quite innocent t till I checked some of the thread titles. Where did you get that from?

Should stick a warning on that link! Technically safe for work, but you may not want your employers to think you're a closet Nazi.

Our group generally shun the rank thing. We've got a chap in charge (sort of a being dictatorship) and a couple of people who lead the drill and that's all we've got in terms of 'officer' types. We portray the Roman equivalent of the TA, so no high ranks there. We even limit the amount of shiny kit we have to reinforce our part-time famer look. Have a nose:
http://www.durolitum.co.uk/
Quite a few of us are soft-kit only (apart from helmets, which is an important safety feature)
The SS lot, though, all bloody Sturmbannfuhrers and the like...

Hey folks stop being so serious, where is a humouristic accent to this thread. "Ja ja gut, es gibt kein Humor in unseren Land"

Re: Pan-Germanic consciousness in Switzerland?

the german swiss and the germans in germany (and the austrians too probably) have loads in common and i think theyll all admit that.

off the top of my head: theyre all quite punctual, speak a mostly mutually comprehensible language, love their orderly and spotless cities, tend to be subconsciously xenophobic, like the english speaking world and distrust all things french. so i suppose there are a lot of pan commonalities. lots of common values in regards to order, community, neighbors, value on vacation and free time. both like to complain.

as an outsider who's live in D and CH, the differences were really only gradually noticed over time. germans are more heirarchical and seem to have less of a problem making decisions. swiss tend to be slower and consensus building in how they solve problems. swiss tend to be more conflict adverse and more polite in public to strangers, and understand "service" vastly better. swiss are much worse drivers, though they stop for pedestrians, and for whatever reason seem to be unable to self-navigate in crowds without bumping into one another. swiss beer is significantly worse, their dairy cases vastly superior.

what i find kinda funny is that the swiss and germans glare competitively at one another, at some things "they" are better, at others "we" are, but yet austrians never seem to fit into the equation. the austrians are always an after thought.

I thought I'd ask for Schweizerblut, as he obviously hasn't had time to get round to it yet.

So... is there any, or does the vehement hatred the Swiss hold towards the Germans preclude any possibility of subracial reunification at any time in the next millennium?

How would a Swiss nationalist greet an American or British pan-Germanist, were he and his friends to meet one outside a kebab shop or in the train station?

And how well would a Stormfront t-shirt go with white tennis shoes?
I have no hatred toward Germans Not likley Suggesting we go for a brat and beer

Sorry, but living in Ticino, ALL German speakers are invaders (or tourists)!

Those from 'Svizzera Interna' are preferred however.

Tom

P.S. While the literal translation of 'Svizzera Interna' is 'Innerschweiz', what it actually means is 'the whole of German-speaking Switzerland' (we just lump them all together).
I always thought you where OK but now .But I decided I give you a second chance

Been there, done that. At 30+ degrees Celsius your drinks are lukewarm once the ususal "Xundheit Ueli - Xundheit Nadine" ritual is finalized at a table of 10 or more. Won't happen again....
But it for sure is not "Xundheit", but proscht !
