SBB pilot revolutionary idea: Queuing!

This must be an April Fools' Day joke...

From this morning's 20 Minuten (page 7):

Quote:
Test: English queues in Hauptbahnhof

ZURICH: Customers who wish to buy tickets in Zurich's main station must stand in line from Monday. The SBB are testing the English "First come, first served" system until Easter Monday. The trial will show whether customers will have to wait less time. They will no longer need to decide which of eleven counters to choose. Whoever is at the front of the line will be served at the next free counter.
Whatever next? Moving on from the top of escalators?

I don't know what this country's coming to...

(actually, they've been doing this for years at the bureau de change, so I don't quite understand why it merits an article in the 20 Min...)

It's also done at Fribourg and Geneva Airport CFF stations since I don't know when. Then again, our Swiss German brethren were always slow off the mark.

Basel SBB has been operating this system for a while.

Once again, Basel's ahead of the curve...

Re: SBB pilot revolutionary idea: Queuing!

coming soon, perhaps April 1st 2012, will be the SBB enforcing a reasonable queuing method to allow people getting off trains to actually be given space more than 30cm wide to pass though......

Re: SBB pilot revolutionary idea: Queuing!

This reminds me, when we were in Oxford during half-term 3 weeks ago, we hopped on the bus from Bonn square back to the Plain. Of course, my kids asked why everyone was queueing up. They had never been on a bus in the UK before
