"Mustachioed, pipe-smoking and blessed with an ability to wreak havoc within his own organisation, Bachmann’s resemblance to Inspector Clouseau was striking; by the time his plots and schemes were uncovered by an astonished commission of inquiry, he had reduced the Swiss military intelligence agency, in which he had mysteriously managed to rise to a senior role, to a state bordering on chaos, not to mention bankruptcy"
One of his better known exploits was to send someone to spy on Austrian military manouvers when the Swiss were anyway invited to attend.
The spy was caught and tried but in an extraodinary display of Austrian humour they suspended the sentence & sent him back to Switzerland.
He also hired & trained mountain guides to help the Swiss Government escape after a Soviet invasion.
Bought foreign properties for the Swiss Government to escape to.
All without bothering to get any agreement or approval from the Government.  |
