As far as I'm aware sexual assault laws do not apply to bulls and cows, let alone cartoons of bulls and cows.
Rape is a serious crime that ruins real people's lives. Let us not devalue the word it by throwing it around in reference to daft stunts like this.

Regarding the "not against foreigners" part: Lara the cow gets screwed so badly that she sees stars. These are not "some stars", but the EU ones... (and the bull has a "1291" as in "real Swiss".)

I agree using that poor cow as a mascot is not very endearing - but to say she seems to be enjoying a good old *****ing seems a bit much, really. I won't be voting for either of them, but least for the bull's side. If this is Swiss humour - it is in pretty poor taste, sorry. Bull***t indeed.

I know for whom I shall vote when I finally get my little red book... | | | | | The problem of the CVP is not some posters of the SVP but the point that the CVP still is THE Roman Catholic Party. They should have merged with the EVP decades ago. Konrad Adenauer when launching democratic politics in post-Nazi Germany in the 40ies/50ies, swiftly merged his Catholic party with the Evangelic-Protestant one of Theodor Heuss and some smaller Lutheran parties in the North, and so created the CDU (Christian-Demcratic Union). This giant of German politics early enough realized that you in the modern world cannot do politics on denominational lines. Mr Blocher however realized the weakness of the CVP, and so, it is no sensation that former CVP "homelands" have become SVP strongholds in the meantime.

You are right that rape is a serious crime (the second most serious after murder) and to publish a cartoon like this that could be so easily interpreted as rape is reprehensible. Not doubt it appeals to a certain type though. The SVP are certainly no fools when it comes to marketing.

Instead the party tries to be all things to all men. The result is that much of its traditional Catholic vote is eroding (some of it being picked up by the SVP). Wallis is arguably the most strongly Catholic of all Cantons, with religion being an important part of people's lives and traditions. To see the SVP grow at the expense of the CVP even there must surely be telling the CVP leadership that they're doing something very wrong.

How do you know it is aggressive?
If you are going to apply such subjective assessments to a cartoon, I could equally suggest that the cow and bull are enjoying themselves and it is a normal state of affairs. Some people/animals actually enjoy sex, you know, and there's all kind of tastes out there...
For sure it may be tasteless to some, but c'mon, let's get a bit of perspective here.
Once again the SVP manage to get the attention - there's no such thing as bad publicity, and while I may not agree with their tactics, it never ceases to amaze me at just how good the SVP are at grabbing attention.

How do you know it is aggressive? | | | | | 1. The cow looks rather unhappy and dazed - symbolized by the stars.
2. The bull has a fairly aggressive look on his face.
Common, are you seriously trying to say that the message is unclear? How much clearer can you draw a cartoon? I am 100% sure that the SVP did not want to express that they are happily making love to the CVP...

It is, yet again, a load of brouhaha over an SVP poster/campaign - which as topics on EF, have about the same frequency as "can I live on 120k?", "where's the brown sugar?" and "what's the cost of living?" threads...

Thanks Treverus - I'm glad you agree. Just asked OH to give me his impression of the cartoon - without any context. he says the cow is small and the the bull huge - and she certainly does NOT look happy about the events - he came up with the 'rape' version too. I am glad we agree. If he thought that the cartoon depicts an enjoyable good r********ing, I'd be concerned ( Punktschluss.
DouglasBreakfast- how about asking your better half for her impression re. poster?

You got to admit, they (SVP) do their job very well. Suddenly the discussion about politics is non-existant and the people only talk about the pictures instead of the underlying issues. Seems most people on here would fall for that too...
Sometimes I get the impression, Switzerland has just the government it deserves...
