Thanks Treverus - I'm glad you agree. Just asked OH to give me his impression of the cartoon - without any context. he says the cow is small and the the bull huge - and she certainly does NOT look happy about the events - he came up with the 'rape' version too. I am glad we agree. If he thought that the cartoon depicts an enjoyable good r********ing, I'd be concerned ( Punktschluss.

DouglasBreakfast- how about asking your better half for her impression re. poster?

I am truly interested in her opinion. Did you ask her? What about the OP, what do you think of the replies so far?

Why don't you ask her?

No prob, DouglasBreakfast- just thought you might have discussed it already. LOL>

Hi MathNut- what do you think of the SVP poster? Just a bit of fun and hilarity, or do you also find it somewhat offensive? Same question to any woman on EF btw.

C'mon, have you ever been to a farm?

It's what cows and bulls do.

To come back to the cartoon a previous poster posted, this is how spotted calves are made.

Do any of you suburban townsfolk live such a sheltered life that you hadn't realised this?

The bull ****ing the cow into submission: the message is very clear.

DB and others claiming otherwise in a screaming effort not to be politically correct, we know you'll be happy to bend over once you've got your red passport.

Re: Foreigners not the target of the latest SVP posters

Am I the only person here who knows what cows actually get up to in the pasture? Buncha city slickers...

There is only so much in the way of kissing and cuddling you can do with hooves if you get my drift. It's also hard to tell whether female cows enjoy it and to what extent. They make some pretty funny faces near the end but then again so do orgasmic humans. And they stand still for it sometimes, whereas other times they run away. (Does standing still = informed consent then? This is why it's absurd to project notions of rape onto the animal world.)

So yeah. Suffice it to say this looks like a pretty decent cartoon of normal cow sex to me.

We can go on and argue whether normal cow sex is actually cow rape or not, but that argument gets pretty silly pretty quickly, and to be honest I don't see the point, because they're not people. They're not even meant to represent people. They're animal mascots of political parties. Your side's got a donkey, the other side's got an elephant, you print posters showing the donkey kicking the elephant out of Washington or vice versa. Nobody understands you to be saying that you want to kick Republicans or that kicking people is OK or that elephants like to be kicked.

When the CVP chose Lara the Fighting Cow - an animal whose sole distinguishing characteristic, whose only point of difference with Daisy the Friendly Moo, is her high level of aggression - as their mascot, was there hubbub? Was there indignation? Or did we all understand at that point that animal mascots aren't people? The same nugget of common sense would go a long way here.

MN, if only life were so literal. Posters aren't. The fact you are discussing actual cow sex is amusing.

Yes: Bull servicing cow.

Not man raping woman.

One hopes you can tell the difference between a woman and a cow?

But back to the real point, it's about submission, a word I specifically picked. Submission in a political context with a gender and sexual connotation. It's quite clear actually.

Re: Foreigners not the target of the latest SVP posters

Thanks for taking the time to reply MN.

Those mascots represent the people in the two different parties surely? I am surrounded by farms- mostly 'good' farmers, 1 with terrible husbandry. We've witnessed in the last couple of years what happens to cows which are 'served' by a bull which is much too big- the results are not much fun, either at the time of ******ing (if a cow is lying down- that means she cannot take the bulls weight, that's for sure - and I'd say that is tantamount to 'rape' even in animal form. On a farm, the cow is held into position by several farmers and ropes with her head in a corner, so she cannot flee if the weight it too much, or if she just does not fancy a bit of rough action) but especially at birthing time. Cows torn to shreds and with broken backs- not the subject of the thread, but just saying I know what happens between cows and bulls

And of course we all know this is not about cows and bulls.

Same question to any woman on EF btw.
I honestly don’t know how I feel about this poster. Opposite to some of the people that posted here, I don’t find the fact that this drawn in a cartoon style diminishes the negative message it transmits: being a cartoonist myself, I know all too well that is absolutely hypocritical.

As many other foreigners, SVP initiatives anger me beyond my usual calm persona. Specially this “cartoony innocent” posters, façade for some of the most blunt racism I have seen in politics. When I want to insult someone I do it directly, I don't hide behind a cute puppet.

As a singular woman, I don’t get offended or happy with this poster. I try to keep distance from it and try to take it as a real joke. Problem is I know the background and the little subtle symbols, like the very obvious UE stars, make me impossible to just take it as a joke. Trying to see it as a simple little “farmers joke” is to me impossible because of context. And trying to shut away the context is absurd: it is an SVP poster, you can’t run away from it, cover eyes and ears and pretend it’s an innocent political poster.

I don’t see it as a condoning image of rape or female submission (after all that’s how the sexual act in bovines work… no missionary/top possible). I also don’t see it as racism towards black people. But I do see it as a vulgar, inadequate, obviously “subtle” way of trying to pass the message how SVP would like to f…k the lives of those who support the UE and non-UE residents.

I never mentioned rape and one post does not a whine make. Your many posts of protest .... Just thought I'd interject a comment after 5 months into a conversation that is no different from those when I last visited.

But please don't let me get in the way of your online masturbation.

Odile, to your question, no, I don't like it. Generally, the way they are trying to appeal to people. Who do they think lives here? Cattle? It's offensive. Wish it made me laugh, it's a sad campaign, as the ones before.

That bull is almighty big and strong, the fodder must have been made of gold.

So you would also say there was nothing in the sheep of a certain colour kicking other sheep of a different colour out? Just animal fun/violence?

Your inconsistency is appalling. Or is it your blindness to certain issues. Or are you just a boring troll. Hard to tell. All unworthy.

My point exactly! Civilized people understand political cartoons as metaphor, and are usually pretty good at identifying the metaphor's intended target and scope. When they want to be.

Yes, the bull in the picture is dominating the cow in the picture.
Yes, the bull in the picture is having sex with the cow in the picture.
IF THEY WERE HUMANS, this might be rape (or it might not, depending on the circumstances.)
SINCE THEY ARE NOT HUMANS, and not intended to represent humans, rape doesn't even come into it.

Now can we discuss what this is a metaphor for, instead of insisting that cows are clearly people and cowsex is clearly rape? Please?

CVP: We're strong, we're aggressive (in a festive, time-honored, non-gory way, of course), we're #1, watch out for us!
SVP: Oh yeah?

There. Did I miss anything?
