Re: Swiss OUTRAGE: Sex Education [Swiss Style]

While I am in favour of early sexual education (as long as it is age-appropriate) I am somewhat baffled at the actual implements involved.

The "models" (so to call them) are just plainly freaky IMHO: neither realistic enough nor simplified/toyish enough. It looks like they're too detailed in certain aspects and not detailed enough/not realistic enough in others... It's a grotesque combination! They look so fake they're creepy.

I wold have either gone with highly-realistic anatomical copies (certain wax sculptures I've seen in medical collections come to mind) OR simplified but correct repros (similar to the pictures/diagrams you find on biology books).

Call me old-fashioned but I consider myself lucky to have grown up on a farm, around all sorts of animals and pets. The whole sex ed thing was, with baby animals being born regularly, part of our everyday life* and while the understanding of the most technical details was a gradual process, to us kids it all looked like just "natural", no big deal. See, it was all contestualised and it made sense to us. And accepting that if baby animals were born that way, even baby humans are, was not so hard or shocking to accept...

Again: the article reduces a pretty long research and concept into some frankly misleading messages. The journalist wants to spark a reaction instead of actually reporting on something. He clearly manages with you.

To recap: sex education today has been proven to be pretty useless - it comes at an age where the kids know their stuff already. Times are changing and kids can get the worst hardcore pornography easily online. Wasn't possible in my age and yes, that was probably a good thing. Yes, even at that age. Sexual assaults among teenagers have been one of the few areas where crime did in fact go up over the last years.
I think it is the responsibility of the state to look into the matter and come up with a concept. Trashing a concept you apparently did not read about except of a badly written tabloid article on the sex toys is ignorant. Comparing it with some communist nutters from the 68 generation and claiming that the concept you did not inform yourself about thoroughly is going to make all kids psychopaths is plainly stupid.

Stupidity and ignorance is not on my part atleast!! I am not all ears for sensational journalism but the article does loosely mention the method to be employed and it cannot be on a groundless basis.
If it was just yellow journalism, why was this article not negated by the government or the education department. It has been over a month since the article was published.
I fully support the sex education program in exsitance and that pre-teens and teens should be able to resist/combat sexual crime
against them or at least be able to report it and get help.
I am just not supporting the method being employed, the toys and the methods to be put in use is not appropriate at a pre teen age.It is not suitable at all for kidergarten sutdents.
For the matter of children watching child pronography on the internet, I think it really depends on the enviornment the child is brought up in
Any parent with even a little bit of common sense and concern will not allow/try and prevent their pre-teens from watching such things. It is a good
intiative by the government to equip the society but the parents have the responsibility to be in charge of their ward.
By exposing children to sex ( stimulating method) will not combat sexual crimes.
I never compared the article to ' some communist nutters from the 68 generation' But was simply stating any wrong direction in this case can lead to a life long problem. People are entitled to their own opnion, thrusting ones own opinion is naive in a democratic society. I just wanted parents to be aware about such a thing in the past.
