Re: Mr Joseph Sepp Bellend Blatter - FIFA corruption

Taken from 20 Minuten:

Die New York Times will vier Namen der Verhafteten kennen.

I reckon Fifa bit off more than they could chew by screwing the Americans over on their 2022 World Cup bid.

HoHoHo!

Brings a smile to my face.

I wonder if they will get to fly luxury class to the US as they have become accustomed to?

If they can't get them on the corruption charges maybe they can charge them with stealing the hotel bedsheets?

Actually, based on the FOJ's statement today sounds more like the use of US banks and the crimes being perpetrated on US soil

Predictably, Blatter looks to have continued his teflon ways and escaped unscathed

Re: Mr Joseph Sepp Bellend Blatter - FIFA corruption

It find it inconceivable that so much corruption exists within the FIFA without Blatter being part of the problem. The fact that these guys, being employed by a club that's supposedly not-for-profit, were residing in the Baur au Lac, AFAIK the best hotel in Zurich, instead of a non-luxury hotel says it all.

The fish starts to stink at the head. Blatters resignation is long overdue, even if only as a concession of his responsibility. And the club status needs to be revoked day before yesterday.

Perhaps, but I don't think their piss take for the 2022 World Cup bidding process would have helped matters. Hopefully the plan is to get the arrested underlings to squeal on Blatter.

Funny thing is, for years FIFA have been trying to raise the game's profile and get the Americans interested in "Soccer". They at least were successful in getting the FBI interested.

It's the world we live in, corrupt big corporations aplenty - FBI & IRS involved to recoup tax money since they aren't heavily involved in the game of football...Don't kid yourself into believing this is a benevolent mission in righting the world wrongs

I still see business as usual continuing at FIFA

They arrested individuals. But US laws allows a whole organization to be indicted and possibly fined. You may see a large fine at the end of all this.

What is interesting is who receives such fines. At the end, it sometimes looks like the US is looking to get their cut.

Now the Swiss Federal Office of Justice has opened criminal proceedings over the allocation of the 2018 and 2022 football world cups. Is it possible that this could result in the vote being declared void? And new a new vote taken for the World Cups?

Exactly, it's a big pie that the US otherwise has little involvement with...Looking for their share

Re: Mr Joseph Sepp Bellend Blatter - FIFA corruption

So the game plan may be for these individuals to plea bargain, and provide evidence against FIFA. Which would then in turn break down their monopoly, and restructure the organization to be more transparent to public officials. It's a power play. The same process used against Microsoft and Google, when such organizations become too rich and powerful. Its a way of preventing too much exceptionalism. Slaughter the fatted cow or sacrifice the pig. Eat the rich and life goes on.

This part is what intrigues me since it's almost a guarantee that Blatter will not be affected - OAG has a separate investigation into the WC votes since it also took place on Suisse soil

Now I'm interested

I would think they would be more interested in the gold and the power than Seph, lest he resists and gets in their way. He's done his role in building it up.

I think I've watched too many intrigue movies. Interesting though. I'd love to be a fly on the wall in the story.

Press conference taking place at the moment, can be seen here:

In the opening speech the guy just said the FIFA is the damaged party here!

I thought it an interesting point made by De Gregorio "This isn't a surprise that it happened, just that it happened today"

Goes back to my earlier comment that perhaps this is merely a way for Blatter to consolidate power

Watching the press conference, I cant help but think that this scenario was already "wargamed" and prepared for since a long long time ago by FIFA PR.

Somebody figured its just a matter of time before law enforcement comes down hard. I suppose the main objective remains to protect Blatter and keep the money flowing. The only way I see Blatter going down is if the revenue stream starts to get jeopardized.

It may have appeared like that and they can "wargame" it as much as they want, but they lost all credibility a long time ago. No one trusts them anymore and no one takes them seriously.

The only way for real change to happen though is now for the national federations to grow some balls and resign their membership and for sponsors to stop sponsoring.
