Re: Mr Joseph Sepp Bellend Blatter - FIFA corruption

I haven't read the whole thread, but in observing the election hype this week one thing seems clear. Pretty much everyone affiliated with FIFA knows it's rampant with corruption, but no one really wants anything to change.

Just look at how he was treated like a celebrity by the delegates. Many people (Blatter included) are getting very, very rich from the current way of doing business. None of them wants to jump off the gravy train. They would like to pretend like nothing has happened and there's nothing to see here. Move along now, or at least buy into our smoke-and-mirrors stance of change and zero tolerance.

There are question marks everywhere!
Platini voted for Qatar in 2010 and his son got a job there in 2013 according to some Swiss newspapers!
Exactly, French newspapers reported a few years ago that there had been a meeting involving Platini, Sarkozy and Qatari royal family members. Apparantly Platini's vote for Qatar to host the WC was given in exchange for Qatar to buy PSG as well as a number of business deals in France's interest.

So all in all I also don't have much hope that Platini will act or pull Uefa from the WC. He's certainly going to come under a lot of pressure from the European federations though.

Platini looks like Silvio Berlusconi, or like the mother of all corruption. to say it with my grandmother this man I would not even touch with a very long stick

Suzy Levine, the US ambassador in Bern, has praised the Zurich police for the excellent help in arresting the sinning seven.
The intrepid Amb. Suzi would like to thank the Swiss for carrying water for the US. In the 20min.ch article she didn't mention anything about the US Justice Department notifying the NY Times of the planned bust so that they could be take pictures. Informing anyone of a planned arrest is not only an illegal act but also could result in someone notifying the suspects of it so that they could escape.

It shouldn't be expected that the US Justice Department will investigate the source of the leaks as that would involve investigating itself.

A quote from Blatter's acceptance speech :

"we will put Fifa's ship back on the right course in clear, transparent waters. We need some time, we cannot do it overnight, but we will do it. I am deeply moved, I am honoured and I thank you. This is a new challenge and I accept it."

Four freakin years ago.

According to Tagesanzeiger today here a FIFA representative in an ARD talk show this morning said that Sepp had not voted for the World Cup to be in Qatar, the implication being that he was outvoted.

Clever guy our Blatter

I am surprised that he would have had a vote anyway, other than a casting vote in the event of a tie. Surely it should have just been down to the country representatives

Re: Mr Joseph Sepp Bellend Blatter - FIFA corruption

I just heard on BBC World Service radio..

There's going to be a FIFA press conference tomorrow about the 10 million now admitted was paid to Jack Warner (who wants revenge on Blatter) in relation to the South African world cup.
Apparently the senior FIFA guy who authorised (conveniently?) it died last year.

Then Friday there is a UEFA meeting ahead of the Champion's League Final to decide on options including a boycott of the Russia World Cup and a breakaway Europe and invited South American tournament.

Update.....I misheard, seems like it is going to happen right now...Blatter's name plate at the conference has been replaced with De Gregorio!!!
