Re: Mr Joseph Sepp Bellend Blatter - FIFA corruption

Director Stefan Jost of the FIFA museum has been "let go".

Not clear why, the museum is losing money but it was anyway expected to in the first few years.

the museum is not really to do with football anyway. it is to show off 'fifa the wonderful' and 'blatter the great'

24 million? That's chicken feed for FIFA. They'll probably just keep it running at a loss.

I just don't see how anyone thought it could be sustainable. People don't tend to come to Zürich to visit football Museums. If it was in London on the other hand... it'd probably still lose money.

Saying that, the National Football Museum in Manchester does quite well.

Re: Mr Joseph Sepp Bellend Blatter - FIFA corruption

Could someone kindly explain how a museum could lose 30 million francs in less than a year?

While I image the income would be negligible it means that they spent over 30 million more than they earned.

It just doesn't seem possible.

My goodness that is almost half of Blatter's severance package.

Re: Mr Joseph Sepp Bellend Blatter - FIFA corruption

The museum was a great disappointment. It shouldn't be hard to create an entertaining football museum, especially one with the financial backing of FIFA, and the contacts and resources they must have -- but they didn't quite manage it. The design of the building is quite imaginative, but there's a dearth of unique exhibits. Apart from the odd medal, a few ticket stubs and programmes, most of what's there is boring, like the big display of football shirts (little different from what you'd see in a sportswear shop) and a bank of videos -- all available on YouTube, I'm sure.

The weekend I went was the 50th anniversary of England winning the World Cup, but this wasn't mentioned anywhere that I saw. The marketing people at a museum like that should be on the lookout for these occasions. They could have an exhibition with memorabilia, and a commemorative event or two, perhaps with a special guest with a connection to 1966. Use it to generate some free publicity and to get people through the door.

Much as I love Switzerland, the museum was (forgive me) rather Swiss in nature. Clean, efficient, expensive, orderly, but rather sterile. I'd expect that of a healthcare museum, but come on, this is football!

Re: Mr Joseph Sepp Bellend Blatter - FIFA corruption

FIFA published their annual report yesterday, contained some strange stuff!
  • the Football Association has a reserve of 261 million dollars for payment to Brazil 2014! (for what?)
  • There is no reserve for legal costs although these were CHF 62 million last year (roughly the same as their staff costs)
  • Legal costs are expected to reach 92 million by 2018.
  • There is no reserve set aside for claims related to the controversial payments in connection with the World Cup in Germany.
  • a loss of 489 million dollars is planned for 2017!

Seems they hope the Russian world cup will save them financially

Maybe the Russian world cup will not save them financially

Sponsors Shy Away From FIFA as Russia World Cup Draws Near.

By the same stage in the tournament cycle for Brazil (in fact three years before the event), almost all the sponsor agreements were concluded.
FIFA has just nine companies (now 10) on its roster for the tournament. That compares with 20 for Brazil.

The numbers make FIFA’s Russia target of 14 tier-one and tier-two backers, joined by a further 20 regional sponsors drawn from five global territories, seem increasingly ambitious with only 14 months left.
Source

Of course, some major companies like Sony, Emirates, Castrol, Continental and Johnson & Johnson are no longer FIFA sponsors possibly related to the various FIFA scandals.

FIFA fires investigators who brought down Sepp Blatter

Hans-Joachim Eckert, the ethics judge of FIFA's adjudicatory chamber, told CNN that the decision to remove him and investigator Cornel Borbely from their roles was a "political decision."

Borbely and Eckert issued a statement Tuesday saying FIFA's decision was "clearly politically motivated" and "puts de facto an end to the reform efforts."

Re: Mr Joseph Sepp Bellend Blatter - FIFA corruption

FIFA secretary general, Fatma Samoura, in the job for barely a year, has been caught paying over CHF28,000 [from FIFA funds] to a cleaning company for the servicing of her own private living quarters.

Samoura was found out after it was highlighted by new FIFA auditor Price Waterhouse Cooper (PwC). She secretly paid the money back and PwC covered up the indiscretion by not mentioning it in their 2016 audit.

Samoura has led a massive purge of FIFA staff over the past year, which has now seen more than 100 employees fired or leaving on the basis of re-organisation of the business.
She has said many were enriching themselves from FIFA’s money.

Interesting, nobody bothered to answer my question .... not even bothered to bash me for heresy.

Glad to see now that NZZ had the same thought long before me.

Closing it down is an idea.

I dont think the Rothschilds and other families around the globe will be very happy with it.

Soccer in its current form is a wonderful way to distract the masses from the real issues.

Garcia report into Fifa's bidding process that awarded World Cups to Russia and Qatar is leaked!
The German newspaper Bild has the leaked report!

Source

Some extracts;
£1.6 million landed in the bank account of the 10 year old daughter of a FIFA executive in the months after the vote.

Three members of the Fifa executive committee which voted for Qatar had, prior to the December 2010 ballot, been flown to a party in Rio on a private jet provided by the Qatari Football Association.

Quote:
The reporter who obtained a copy of the report nevertheless said it did not provide concrete proof the 2018 and 2022 tournaments had been bought.
