Wow, I didn't mean any offense whatsoever here. I was in Montreal for St. Jean Baptiste in 2009, but I was afraid to speak English for the entire day, that's how I felt. I never came to break windows or instigate. I was there because I'm Canadian and wanted to experience St. Jean Baptiste.
I am sure.

And believe me, if you had say that to people, they would have been super cool with you and would have invite you to join them!

I don't think it will do great to be honest...

To be part of Canada is a much better thing than being on their own.

That's for sure.

Canada has a visibility, a reputation and the strengh on the international level that never a small country like Quebec would have, even on the long run. And not being part of this anymore would cost to much to Quebec on too many level...

Re: Quebec vs. Switzerland

The Quebecois don't hate being part of Canada. I'm no expert, but I have to assume that most reasonable Quebecois recognize that a sovereign Francophone nation smack in the middle of Canada would not be viable in any way. That's the major reason the referendums failed.

The Quebecois (like other groups) just need to have something to complain about...it's useful to have to spectre of an Anglophone invasion from the West to distract themselves...

Some of us are just pissed because the Montreal Alouettes keep on winning our football Grey Cup and feel it would be tremendously sporting of the Als to let another team win this forthcoming season.

That's how they get you. All disguised as seals and bears, they spread propaganda about only living in the southern hemisphere - then when you least expect it, they don natures tuxedo and an army of tiny butlers rips you limb from limb!

What real political power does the queen have over Canada?
Well, after the 2008 election, the Governor General of Canada used his "symbolical" power to prorogue the Parliament, just days after the Liberals, the NDP, and the Bloc Québécois had agreed to form a coalition government.
See on Wikipedia, the events of December 1 2008 to January 26 2009.
This gave Harper the time to start a totally anti-democratic campaign and at the end he managed to turn these parties against each other.

Thanks to the Queen's guy, Canada is still under Harper's administration. Yey!!

And this happened the one and only time that the Bloc Québécois was about to support a federal coalition government (not even actually participate in it). Coincidence....

Re: Quebec vs. Switzerland

To cut it short:

As local and Swiss I can't imagine Canada without Québec or the English speaking part. To me it's the addition of both that makes the country so interesting, smart and sympathetic!

Allez les amis Canadiens friends !!

PS. As french-speaking I just love the Québéquois accent !

In comparasence, I believe that Quebec has about as much significance as the Romansch speaking part of Switzerland. It's simply a part of a country that has lost its significance and will further down the road be even less significant that it already is IMO.
