Re: 15 yr old makes a Facebook comment, loses job...

The 15 year old was going to work as an apprentice for the Gemeinde. Her employers, after asking around about the girl's reputation is general, felt the young girl could not be trusted with all the private data she would see regarding the locals.

Facebook entries are seen by friends, and friends of friends, and so on. Many parents are friends of their children. The entry could have easily seen by many parents in the Freienbach Gemeinde.

I think the Gemeinde made a good decision and were basically covering their own a**es.

not arial, garbage right away.

Paper cut ---generally means, if you pick up a resume, and it doesn't feel right, it's garbage. Whether it be stapled, one cheap paper, pages stuck together etc.

Kinda means if the sorter picks up a resume and get's a paper cut, they get pissed off, and tosses that resume into the trash.

Dog eat dog world unfortunately
Damn, that's brutal.

FB gone sour, that's life. Apprentissage at 15 is a sweet thing, but this student has a fair chance to straighten up and a couple of years to find something else.
That's life... what an idiotic saying to condone stupid/unfair/excessively harsh decisions. She does not have the chance to straighten up (which apparently means not making comments about teachers bums on FB..) as the best apprenticeships are not given to those who have to make an extra round.. as you should know as a teacher...

Oh, and the groans are for strong disagreement with your position MC, nothing against you mind.

I'd rather say that they did not want to have someone who will write on FB how inefficient and lazy the Gemeinde employees are

But she is not really a little kid. As a 15 year old, she would be expected to know better.
So, at 15 she's too young to be expected to know better about smoking, drinking, sex, politics, control of a vehicle and watching a film.

But she's expected to know what slight will get her sacked and affect her future job prospects - "You had to stay an extra year at school. Why was that?"?

Not really.
At 15, kids know about all these things.
Its not always right, but they do.

She is going to start working (for the gemeinde). So she should have been a bit careful.
I'm not saying that what they did to her was fair, only that she isn't really SO young not to understand that this could happen.

Sorry but at 15, you do know a lot of this stuff. However, many don't want to believe it until they have to pay for their actions. Sometimes you pay more, sometimes less.

Thanks for the expletives, I do not consider consequences in real life stupid, but extremely efficient. In fact the most efficient. You think it is

I do not think so. If you do not go after this kind of behavior, no matter how private/public the FB settings are right at this moment, you are also responsible for the consequences. And that is the stand Gemeinde decided to take and I agree. You know why? Because I am a teacher, and in fact, in that very special

extra round
. Yes, there are chances. And even in Gemeindes. But, it is up to each individual Gemeinde to set certain standards that might not be bent just because somebody is pushing for that kiddo. If kids want to be smartypants, they have to bear the consequences. If people argue that apprentissages in local administration are so prestigious that there won't be second chances (in fact I know there are), then that 15yr old should have really paid a lot more attention to details of internet safety/privacy. Nothing is 100% private/secure online. 15 yr olds know it.

Re: 15 yr old makes a Facebook comment, loses job...

Pathetic! So poor teenager gets taught a lesson by the fat teacher? How about the teacher setting an healthy example and not getting a fat back side in the first place? If the teenager is losing 1 year then I would send the teacher to a fat camp. If she refuses then sack her!

After reading the FB comment the teacher probably got all depressed and started stuffing XL servings of BK. How does one become a teacher with such thin skin?

Yesterday I witnessed something interesting. A fat teacher was in charge of looking after some little kids. There were around 10 of them and suddenly one young girl starter getting slapped by two other boys. They started fighting and shouting really loud.

What did the teacher do? Get up and protect the girl getting the beating? NOPE! Shout at the kids? NOPE! She was too busy tucking into her junk food and completely ignored the crying little girl. I had to shout at the kids to stop hitting the girl.

Hahaha....well, they can't really.

The thing is, the system of apprentisage is an old one, and pretty interesting one, the idea goes way back to good old Pestalozzi. Learning guilds, etc. association, schools supporting an apprentie aside of the "patron", it is all very much linked to honor, as well, and professionalism. There is a good will that shouldn't be abused. I do see how it can be seen cruel, but honestly, her life is not wrecked. She shouldn't have known better and I am sure now she will, and all her classmates and friends. That's my take on it.

When Mud & Bros. were young we got our harsh comments out vicariously through Fred Sanford. Though maybe all the hours spent watching Sanford and Son had some effect later in life too...

Well, MC's parts aside, as kids we knew that certain things were permitted as long as nobody found out. Hard to accomplish when broadcasting on the web .

Still: We wrote way worse things into each others notebooks and the like. Basically the manual version of facebook. Once a girl got her notebook confiscated and into trouble for some of the stuff in it, but there is no way that somebody would lose a job based on that!
So .before Facebook was ..... erm book.
