Schwarzenegger bases R20 group in Geneva


Former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s non-profit environmental organization R20 is setting up headquarters in the canton of Geneva.
The organization, founded late last year, works on issues to stem climate change.
The decision to move to Geneva was revealed in the latest issue of The Global Journal, a Geneva-based magazine.
R20’s director, Christophe Nuttall, said Geneva was chosen because of the UN organizations based there, along with other groups working on climate issues.
Nuttall said a secretariat of dozen people will work at offices in the Villa Grand-Montfleury in Versoix, starting in November.
R20 stands for “Roadmap for 2020”.
Schwarzenegger said at the time of the group’s founding in California last fall that he didn’t want to wait for national or international action on climate change.
He was also a strong figure in the Western Climate Initiative, a regional coalition of U.S. states and Canadian provinces working on climate issues.
