He might as well could have escaped to the German part. | | | | | Or to Pakistan. Maybe they have intelligence they've decided to exclude LiB from, this once.

| | Re: Dangerous Man on the loose | Quote: | | | | | Was this from today's paper (couldn't see a date)?
Although I'm some way from the area where this happened, it's still, kind of, my part of the world, to a degree. It's just that, apparently, (I didn't see it myself), on Mon. early evening there was loads of police activity about half a km from me. Lots of cars, an ambulance or two, and police in full riot gear with helmets and shields - I mean this is a small village - no football stadium nearby.
Still waiting to hear from the jungle drums, what was going on. I hope it wasn't to do with this. | | | | | | Quote: | | | | | great, here people vote to keep the guns and police are without them... | | | | | Although OT, I finally got to hear what went off. It was a "domestic" of some sort. A shot was fired in a house containing a man a woman (presumedly partner) and a small child.
Fortunately the woman and child wer able to get out and were whisked away, and then a stand-off ensued.
Eventually "Special-Ops" style police were able to enter the house and end the situation without further shots needing to be fired - and the man was bound and gagged and too whisked away.
If it's who I think it could be - although I didn't know him - he always said hello when he went past walking the dogs.

More news on the subject: http://www.blick.ch/news/schweiz/die...nterher-175613
In a nutshell, this lady saw the man escape. Apparently, the van stopped...the unarmed female security guard stood by the side door and struggled to keep the door shut.....inmate jumps out of van, swiftly walks off. Van drives off into the direction of the jail.
What gets me, is that they display the full name of the lady who witnessed the whole incident, along with a pic of her in front of her house. They however, simply posted a mugshot and the first name of the dangerous, murdering rapist. (doesn't really make sense...but oh well). In addition, there were 2 guards...they simply drove off and didn't bother with going after the fugitive.

She tells a rather different story here: http://www.videoportal.sf.tv/video?i...ungsuebersicht
No mention of a female guard at all, she says the prisoner struggled with the 2 guards, got free and legged it, chased by one of the guards (it was separately reported the other guard was wounded).
I know which story I'll believe.

... and unfortunately, I'm going on 3rd party reports - apparently he had tape over his mouth, and I assume handcuffs (or plastic cable tie).
It was Sunday evening, so I was probably at Ev'nsong. | This user would like to thank TiMow for this useful post: | |

Just for those who cannot read the local news: The gentleman was previously jailed for murder in a extraordinary cruel case. He raped a woman and afterwards forcefed her stones till she died! After his 12 year sentence was he gradually allowed more freedom to carefully get him back into society. One afternoon he ran away, took the train to Geneva, surprised his female prison psychologist at home and raped her...

Police arrested a bald man with glasses today in Geneva, in a bus.
To find, once at the police station it wasn't the Dangerous Man.
if you're bald and wear glasses, stay at home....

| | Re: Dangerous Man on the loose | Quote: | | | | | | | | | | First of all, Ontario has roughly twice as many people as Switzerland...and second of all, this isn't an isolated incident. elderly gunman still on the run in Biel [captured]
The Swiss dilettant approach to anything..especially police procedures is somewhat ridiculous as incidents are a common occurrence. http://www.20min.ch/news/schweiz/story/26112845
(mind you the last police office killed in the line of duty in Toronto was in 2002)

| | Re: Dangerous Man on the loose | Quote: | | | | | | | | | | Swiss police is working hard to issue bills which guarantees income to the country, no time nor money to waste searching for murderers and rapists......how many assaults happened on banks and posts last year, if i recall well there was even 3 attacks on the same post office in 1 month, so much police efficiency me thinks
Maybe they should start thinking about recruiting expat police |

Maybe they should start thinking about recruiting expat police | | | | | I tell you, I don't even think that they have a standardized procedure when apprehending suspects. I once witnessed a scuffle among various people and one police officer showed up. I could tell, that he didn't have the situation under control as people were yelling at each other and trying to hurt the opposing party....it was complete chaos.
