I see simple price (and sometimes quality) scale: Lidl,Denner < Migros < Coop < Manor < Globus. That's it. If somebody is providing good quality for cheaper price, I go there no matter what salary I have. I would feel stupid to pay more than needed for given quality.
I'm not sure if Globus is really worth the prices they call.
If you want real superior quality, a trip to an organic shop (like Egli in Zurich) is often the best advice.

If all the PIGGS sold all their gold, that would do the trick!

News on the BBC

Not much revelation.

The Swiss government is holding an emergency meeting on Monday on how to respond to the financial turmoil.

Re: Swiss Franc Climbs to Record High

With each passing day, my swiss vacation is turning more and more expensive, since the chalet I booked has been negotiated in CHF rates.
Thankfully, I pre-bought my Bernese Oberland Pass.

Hopefully, with crude falling, fuel prices will fall in CHF? Or are you guys like us Indians, if Crude rises, fuel goes up, if crude falls, then also fuel price goes up?

Everything depends on whether they take the sales-rate (around 1.06 to 1.08 now) or the purchase-rate --- when THEY purchase (around 1.02 to 1.04) ! The declared aim of the SNB is to keep the Euro at above CHF 1.00 and it looks as if they succeed. And their pushing money into the CH money market has only just begun ! In case of doubt they will have, just as in the past, introduce NEGative interest rates on foreign money accounts, in order to stabilize the situation.

Some finance chaps may complain that the SNB puts the finance-markets into turmoil, but the SNB is NOT the "CBISM" (Central Bank of International Stock Markets) but the Central Bank of Switzerland and so HAS to take care of the Swiss export markets and the Swiss inbound tourism. The nervous disorders of some stock markets traders in the world are NOT their business really. Even IF, of course, also the Swiss stock market is affected. That it is even more than by average shows that not only the CHF but also the SMI was overvalued.

There will be an interesting meeting in Bern tomorrow. You may say that nothing can result if crooks meet crooks. Well, let's see

Re: Swiss Franc Climbs to Record High

EUR / CHF Parity was practically reached for a few minutes on Tuesday late afternoon (1 EUR = 1.0076 CHF)... it went back to 1.02-1.03 CHF after a few minutes. Check it out!

Re: Swiss Franc Climbs to Record High

Currently under 1.04.

Next stop: parity with the pound? The CHF is currently GBP 0.8484, and it's not so very long ago that it was at that level against the EUR.

Not an astonishing thing. As the "printing" is only just beginning. And, just as Nick Hayek said a week ago, an announcement will not yet have much of an effect, as people in the world will not believe in just words.
