How the police handle this in Zurich? Do they do nothing like in UK?
I've just heard on SF2 that the Züri Stapo are about to detonate a tactical nuclear weapon at Paradeplatz, and that we should all close our eyes for a second or two.

Police do nothing to protect their citizens. I cannot imagine it happen in USA (for instance).
I think the first sentence is relevant to the second for those who are like .

Yes of course riots happen in the U.S., and usually police action is swift and armed and maybe a little bit brutal. I lived in Cincinnati and was there for the 2001 riots just before moving here; rubber bullets and bean bags were used within hours of the start of rioting. A curfew was set, and a general take no sh!t approach was adopted. The rioters were herded into a small area and contained there, with upstarts in surrounding areas quenched immediately.

As the riots were due to racial tensions and protests against excessive use of force by police against black people, it was a tricky situation, bit one thing was clear- contain the element of danger, and stop it. The cops took a lot of flak for what they did prior to and and during the riots, but you can't expect cops to be cuddly teddy bears and armed crime stopping machines at the same time. Well, you can, but then you have mayhem. Presently.

Teens are putting Zurich on fire? Burning police stations and throwing stones to police officers?
all that has happened. Well they didn't burn a police station AFAIK but they tried many times and the offices of a private security company were ravaged once. Anybody who leaves an expensive car parked on certain streets in Kreis 4 and Kreis 5 on the 1st May is basically asking to have it torched.

It's called printing money to devalue the CHF.

Believe me, it hurts.

Tom
You're mistaken, they were just practicing for the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games.

A show of force:

Berlin 1936
Moskva 1980
London 2012

It's all about showing the foreigners who the "tough guys" are.....

And how do the Swiss deal with rioters?
Stare at them, take away their brown sugar and cross out their names on the laundry list.

Well "Riots and civil unrest in the United States" is a category on Wikipedia, so you imagination needs to try harder.
I am actually talking about modern USA, and not about peaceful demonstrations with guitars J.

I mean similar behaviorlike in London when crazy teens are throwing stones to police officers andburning police stations.

I actually mean the way how the police in UK handle it, how quick response is and how professional they are. I believe police must fire back right away, because ghetto-teens understand only one way, when they fill strength.

Yes, it is exactly how it should be!!!
My point was: the police did not prevent riotsin LONDON. And even after it has happened police did not do much. They decidedto employ rubber bullets ONLY after some people lost their homes because somemonkeys burned them down. Unbelievable!!!

Huh. As compared to Switzerland where the first police reaction to the Norway massacre was, "if it would happen here, we would clearly be ten minutes sooner responding".

On the first video we can see that police actually tracking them. Regarding second video - yes, I read about this. It was after storm Katrina in New Orleans area, but it is more like exclusion. This is peaceful looting, it looks like quiet stilling. Nobody is attacking police stations with petrol bombs. Compare to this for video example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MP-td3C55Yc

Show me something similar for example in Midwestof USA like Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa or many other states. Police there are extremely professional.
Yes, I see your point, it happened in US too. But my point police there are quick and professional. I believe that those police officers on your video (if they are really stilling something) will go to prison for many, many years. The laws in US are extremelystrict, not like in some EURO countries, when criminals are free after only fewyears.
