Almost everyone knows about what happening in London and other big cities in UK. My opinion, police in UK don’t do their job properly or someone does not let police to do their job. (Possibly stupid laws in England or stupid Euro-tolerance).

Unbelievable, but police decided to employ rubber bullets after3 days (!) of lootings, burnings and vandalism. Police do nothing to protecttheir citizens. I cannot imagine it happen in USA (for instance). Stupid tanagers are throwing stones to police officers, burning down their cars and police stations and police don’t shot idiots back. What is it? This is not police, this is kindergarten!

Do you think it can happen in Switzerland (especially in the German part)?
I do remember ! Kent State ,LA Riot,Chicago Dem. Convention,There are more , but I have to go to bed now

Re: Riots in Switzerland! Is it possible?

A close friend of ours is a Specialist Firearms Officer in the Met. He says every time a gun is fired there is an enquiry and every time someone is shot the officer who fired the gun is required to leave that section of the police force. They only shoot to kill, not disable, otherwise other methods of control would be used instead.

I for one am much happier with this more controlled way of Policing than arming the entire Police Force. Being an excellent shot is a specialised skill. Not every Police Officer will be capable. Imagine the carnage if every PC carried a gun and used them. It would be a huge danger to the general public on Britain's crowded and narrow streets.

Funny thing is that it doesn't even remotely resemble Bern. If anything it looks like somewhere in the UK.....

Damnit! And I thought I was the first one in!

Still, I like the caption on mine better...

And yes, I agree - those roads are way too shoddy to be Swiss ones I think!

what you can't tell is that there's a cat in the bin

why we can't have a cat in the hat I don't know. Or a fox in the box. Or maybe a goose on the hoose, if you're weejeem

Had you used the correct year and asked for "Zürich youth riots 1968" you would have landed on http://www.ringier-specter.ch/index....7&showAlbum=50

-- and had you googled "Zürich youth riots in the 1980s" you would have landed on
http://www.swissworld.org/en/history..._in_the_1980s/

So that you simply have to be precise

and do not forget that those riots, as it was Zürich and not the Ouagadougou or Peer Steinbrück, started punctually always, so that you knew until when you could drive past the place and when you had to do a detour

Watching BBC 3 Young People's Question Time.

Some say riots are due to boredom - so there is plenty of potential in Switzerland, with all those ex-pats who think it is so boring

Re: Riots in Switzerland! Is it possible?

Well Mr Ueli Maurer is part of the Federal Council and is responsible for the Army and Sport - when asked by the Blick Journalist if he thinks this could also happen in Switzerland said this wouldnt happen in Switzerland for there are no Ghettos like in England.

Re: Riots in Switzerland! Is it possible?

We had riots in Lausanne in 1980 and 1981 (Lôzane bouge). Completely pointless. Well to do kids that were bored.
I remember that the french media was excited to come witness the new "Swiss spring of 68". They very quickly got disgusted to see a bunch of spoiled brats looting and destroying property. The police reacted firmly.

I don´t think the police would be as soft here... It can happen, but wouldn't long much...

I believe that it can happen in any country at any time, but in switzerland I am sure that the police's response would be swift and forceful. They have managed to contain any type of rioting at davos and they seem well prepared for any football matches rioting...
