Jet Aviation to cut more than 200 jobs around 13% of their workforce

Jet Aviation to cut jobs

Jet Aviation to cut more than 200 jobs

Aviation services provider Jet Aviation will slash more than 200 jobs from its payroll at Basel airport.
The company blames the strong franc and lower turnover for the decision to let some of its 1,600 staff go from September onwards until the middle of next year.

The most affected sectors will be aircraft completion/refurbishment and administrative staff. Aircraft servicing is less threatened by any measures according to company spokesman Heinz Aebi.

Employees will be informed of management decisions after September 13. While the company is looking at cutting operating costs and overheads, it is also considering whether to increase the working week from 42.5 hours to 45.

Around 60 per cent of Jet Aviationís staff at the tri-national Basel airport is French, with another 20 per cent from Germany. Swiss employees account for around ten per cent of the workforce.

The company, which was taken over by General Dynamics in 2005, already cut 280 jobs in Basel in 2009 and 2010. Jet Aviation employs 5,500 people worldwide.
